Insurance
After initially agreeing to pay £374 for my bike insurance -I was just dying to ride it after I passed my test on Monday , so would have paid anything ! I've cancelled that insurance and have been qouted £133 fully comp +basic recovery +free legal fees by MCE . This sounds a really good deal to me ,does anyone think I could better this ? I think this is effin good :whoop:

Re: Insurance
Thanks , that's what I thought - I'm just waiting for one more company to get back to me BeWise insurance , they said they may be able to do it nearer the £100 mark - they are just waiting to hear from their underwriters , but I'd be happy with £133 !

Re: Insurance
yeah thats great john - my first year of insurance fully comp was just over £200 which everyone said was good at the time I'm now with Adrian Flux BIKESAFE and pay £96.28 fully comp includes pillion and other bikes plus helmet and leather cover (there is a little bit of discount in there but not much think it should have been just under £120) and that was also with 2 years NCD

Re: Insurance
I pay approx £110 for mine, fully comp, pillion cover, leathers, lid and Ive been passed 17 months.
Re: Insurance
Ellie , it's really weird - had I said I was in the building trade , or a civil servant ,I would have got £110 , but because the "industry" I'm in is "Broadcasting" or "TV and Radio" I get penalised - and some insurance companies won't touch me , I don't know if they think we are all a bunch of piss heads or what - hic ...ellie wrote:I pay approx £110 for mine, fully comp, pillion cover, leathers, lid and Ive been passed 17 months.

Don't forget , you probably passed when you were a lot younger , I'm rapidly approaching 42 so that's in my favour

yeah i usually get that as soon as the 'boys in blue' are mentioned oh mine also includes commuting - my mate got a shock when he was on a couse he put in for travel - they asked to see his insurance and he thought it was ok because it included travel to and from work - unfortunately that only counts to and from your main place of work - because the course was at another station it didn't class as his main place of work so he wasn;t covered - so i checked with mine and they added the extra little bit in that they apparently have to do so i have to and from work and a form of business cover (not full business cover) which covers you if you have to go from your normal place of work to a temporary one elsewhere whilst your at work if that makes sense (it does to me as i have to book on at one place and then sometimes go to another)

Re: Insurance
Yes I know what you mean , mine includes commuting too - . Thats interesting what you said about your mate . 99.9% of the time I just go to W12 , but in the past I have gone to Blackpool , and Bournemouth a couple of times to do the Political Party conferences and have used my car to get there , I've claimed for petrol and have never been asked about my insurance . My car insurance covers me just for my main place of work , but if I was involved in a crash on the way to say another place of work they would never know , I could just say I was going for a drive - but insurance companies they will use any exuse to get out of paying for a claim.

I've never been asked for mine in the whole last 15years so i didn't even know that the to and from work bit did only mean your main place - until Jon I didn't actually know anyone had and he, like most of the other people apparently, didn't know about this extra little sentence and assumed he was covered - even the boss lol - since Jon got asked and had his altered found a few people have been asked for their insurance certificate when submitting claims - the cynical amongst us say it's a loophole they've found to get out of paying the paltry mileage we do get though i suppose in a way it's done some of us a favour as, like you say, we wouldn't have been covered if we'd had an accident and if it was a reportable one then obviously they would know we weren't on our way to our main place of work as they'd know where that was! - only thing we can think is they've either only just found out about this clause themselves or someone had an rtc whilst travelling to a different place of work and it was found they weren't covered because they didn't have business use. Didn't cost me anything extra on the insurance so it made no difference to me though as they only pay me something like 11p a mile on the bike that makes little difference either, i only use it because i'm a bad passenger and i like to wave at the boys/boss when i go by them stuck in traffic on the A15 having set of after them

Re: Insurance
Finally - I ended up paying £110 fully comp including commuting and free legals courtesy of BIKESURE. The other one who quoted me £133 , today it went up to £203 !!! When I asked why, he just said today was a new month so there were new prices

Re: Insurance
I said Bikesafe but i meant Bikesure - well thats good - it also means that mine will hopefully be even cheaper then !!!!!!!

Re: Insurance
I have business use as i do home visits, and it doesnt cost any extra. I get 51p a mile for the car, and 41p for the bike.
Re: Insurance
Can't help thinking I am missing a trick here or something... All of you lot seem to have great cover for little brass. I pay £117 for the year for my thunderace which does give me full european breakdown BUT it's only TPFT... I am with Bennetts and renewed my policy when I sold the cat in August. Not exactly in the flush of youth either so my age can't count against me... Thing is when I looked into it earlier I realised that I am stuck with it until renewal as it would incur a cancellation charge if I moved! Come August I will be buying a Blackbird and you can bet your bottom dollar that Bennets won't be getting my business on that one.. Grrr!

Re: Insurance
Mev , I find Bennetts really expensive , they were charging me £140 for my Honda 125cg ! Now I'm only paying £110 for my Cat and I only passed my test 8 days ago - Bennetts are a bit of a rip off.

Re: Insurance
my first ever quote with Bennetts was megabucks too - have you tried bikesure Mev? here's the link if you want to try it

I think bikesure are the brokers ? Not 100% on that , but I used this website and it's the one I got £110 with although I'll be damned if I actually know who I'm insured with Also if you go to Links , I've posted loads of links to insurance websites - save you having to do a lot of surfing.
