shiney other bits
nice shiney chain & sprocket.....new?
is the swing arm just painted black?
tax disc holders...what an eyesore...every year when I put new tax in I try to find somewhere that it can be seen but is unobtrusive...difficult...currently attached to front chain guard bolt so that it lies behind the fairing

Re: Shiney Wheels!!
Yep, sprayed swing arm, and I need a new chain apparently.
The Muppet that owned it previously hand painted the wheels, so Nick's made the best of them, and I think he's done a damn fine job!!

If it has a "06" on it - yes
Is that an obligation to fix it at the bike - as an evidence you had payed the tax?
Sorry for the question - we don't have anything like that in Germany
Re: Shiney Wheels!!
Yep, its 'evidence' that its been purchased, and has to be purchased yearly....approx £44
and it is supposed to be displayed on the front, on the left hand side....i think...

Re: Shiney Wheels!!
Ah - ok.
In Germany we have a little sticker on the number plate to show the accreditation (?) of the bike. You can't see, wether the tax was payed or not.
When you not pay the tax (also 44€/year) the police get a letter from the authority, they come to see the bike and they remove the sticker from the plate.
Now your bike isn't accredited any more...

Re: Shiney Wheels!!
I thought you just had to have it clearly displayed somewhere i don't think it matters where does it? The wheels are very red! I'd seen a red/black cat with wheels like that at boston bike night last year and had thought then may get mine done but then i decided there would just be too much red on mine so i'm still hanging out for my original (more expensive ) choice of red and silver or red/black - no doubt the car will have something to say and it'll delay it a bit longer!ellie wrote:

Actually it does, according to Section 33 Vehicle Excise and Registration Act 1994 the disc must be displayed on the nearside of the bike (referred to in the act as a bicycle :o ), so guess anywhere along the left hand side would do.
If your bored out of your skull here's a link to it.
Think it would be much better having the authorisation on the number plate. Not sure why we need them at all seeing the Automatic Number Plate Recognition system the police have alerts to unlicensed vehicles.
I recon they are needed for the 'parking attendant/enforcement officers' to have something to do.
Nice wheels Ellie (well done Nick), but your bike is way too clean

Re: Shiney Wheels!!
well there you go learn something new every day mind you the amount of people that carry them round in tank bags don't spose it much matters.
As for the ANPR - its not the police that prosecute for no tax just failure to display tho for the first time ever i did actually see a DVLA ANPR unit the other day - a small camera on a small tripod next to a small car with DVLA VEL Checkpoint sign on the outskirts of Boston!

Under the seat is another favorite spot. They do that because apparently the discs get nicked.Ezzy's Mum! wrote:well there you go learn something new every day mind you the amount of people that carry them round in tank bags don't spose it much matters.

Well I ought to know better than believe what I see on TV. Maybe the APNR in the police cars only checks stolen and un-insured vehicles.

Yep thats what they do....... well ... let me qualify that ..... in our area thats what they do but in any event it is the dvla that are responsible for dealing with the tax side of things and whilst we used to take reports of no tax it got too many to deal with so now its passed to the dvla but officers are sent a general obs message -police prosecute for fail to display valid tax disc (failing to have one can invalidate the insurance depending on the policy so once they get a producer for their docs which they invariably do they may find themselves getting done for no insurance if thats the case which in turn can lead to the good old 'driving other than in accordance with a licence' or something along those lines if they get really nasty) and may issue a form (won't bore you with the number of it!) which basically informs the driver of the vehicle that the details will be passed to the DVLA and they may be prosecuted by them - its then up to DVLA if they prosecute or not. If anyone rings in about it then the details get passed out for general obs and the caller is also referred to the DVLA local office that deals with no tax.
It shows up as a vel expired on the ANPR - i'm not sure whether it sends something thru to DVLA automatically but certainly in Lincs thats what happens. Any other reports that are put on also register but i think i'm right in saying it doesn't tell the chappy at the ANPR site what the full report is just registers as a hit for something - i'm assuming thats the case because when i was on the desk they'd call up for a check because a vehicle had 'pinged' as it went thru - each type of report comes under a different heading when they get put on pnc (that was another part of my job ... yawn) so they would get the type of report that it was ie stolen - but not necessarily all the full details so they'd call up to ask. DVLA only see a part of the record too because of data protection - certain agencies own certain parts of the report so it may show there is something on that vehicle but not all the details - the police get most.

Re: Shiney Wheels!!
Bike looks fantastic in those colours- Really nice job.
Had my sprockets and chain changed the other day. Not sure how i hadn't managed to kill myself, as apparently the front sprocket retaining nut had gone missing!!!!
