Thundercats hoooooooo! Newbie member.
Hi all,
One excited newbie member to the forum, Late 30's week or so away from my Mod 2 with a cat ready and waiting. (well sort of)
This Friday she goes in for an MOT after being of the road for 3 years.
1998 model picked her up for 650 and love her to bits, always had Yamaha's so it was a given really.
Used to own the RD LC's a 125 and a 350, she is cosmetically challenged but nothing a bit of TLC and spray paint won't sort.
Anyway nice to meet you all and I'm looking forward to the journey.
Regards Tractorboy1978

Hi and welcome, all the best for your Mod 2 and the start of your fun with your 'Cat. Good price there.
Some of us here have had RD's in our past, mine though was a 50cc my first Yamaha before defecting back to Suzuki for a few bikes and the Yamaha ever since.

Welcome Inn tractorboy, hopefully you'll be able to meet up on the Oxford and Cotswold's ride out. Get some pictures up and show us your steed.
Recommended mods are braided lines, and think about doing the R6 rear shock mod, can't rave enough about it. Have a good check of your headers if they are standard and think about SS replacements if they are. The originals are made of chocolate.

Re: Thundercats hoooooooo! Newbie member.
Hi Guy's cheers for the welcome.
Would love to post a pic of Cheetara but haven't worked out how to do that just yet lol.
I like the idea of a few mods somewhere in the future just need to get her through the MOT then start to build experience.
Initially I think my time will be best spent on the cosmetics as she needs a bit of a face lift and lick of paint.
I know it sounds pathetic but just in owe looking at her at the moment let alone sharing the road together.
Have a small issue at the moment with the indicators which after some research sounds like I need to get my hands on some diodes to resolve.
Joys of having a bike to tinker with

Re: Thundercats hoooooooo! Newbie member.
What's with the indis? Are they flashing at the same time both sides? Flashing too fast? Are they leds?

Re: Thundercats hoooooooo! Newbie member.
They are led's all around, I noticed the green idiot light would only flash when indicating 1 particular direction (can't remember which direction) and when the bike is running the opposite side indicators would flash dimly.
I have taken the idiot bulb out for now and they now work correctly but not sure if this will be an MOT issue so have until Friday to resolve the issue.
When I was fiddling around with it anitially I tried a standard incandescent bulb in the dash and they would all stay on the bike was fitted with a green led light in the dash. All good fun!!!

Re: Thundercats hoooooooo! Newbie member.
It's because of the power draw, with leds requiring less power to flash. This is what you need
https://matchlessclueless.com/product-info/installation-guides/led-indicator-diode-installation/
Did it myself and worked a dream. Even get instructions on how to wire in.

Re: Thundercats hoooooooo! Newbie member.
Nice one thanks for the Link, I found this one yesterday and they are now on holiday until around the 4th of may. Might see if I can get hold of some bits from work or Maplins and try to hash something together in the mean time. Steering lock doesn't work would like to try and resolve this If possible.

Hi Paul,
Appreciate the best wishes and Luck, my fingers are crossed probably more so for the mot. Can't imagine not being able to use her now.
Will post some pics when on the lap top at some point.
She isn't her original colour but red with Malborough stickers love it

Hi Raymond,
Thanks for the well wishes, hopefully she will be on the road I can't wait. Already feel I have a bond with her after rounding off a fairing bolt!! All that time cleaning her up and she does that to me lol
Will look to do some meets etc in the future just need to build confidence and faith in the old girl.
Cheers Dan

A couple of pictures, cosmetically challenged is probably the best way to put it but not bad for an old girl. Lol

Re: Thundercats hoooooooo! Newbie member.
T'cats are very forgiving to ride, won't take you long to get a good bond on the roads.
Please change that silencer if it's an original(looks it from this angle), it will rust through rather badly although, looking at the condition of the swing arm and frame it might be fine as they are extremely clean and rust free!

Re: Thundercats hoooooooo! Newbie member.
Thanks for the advice, the headers are SS and the exhaust is a standard silver one in good condition but a bit of rust where it meets the main exhaust.
MOT tomorrow, nervous!!

Re: Thundercats hoooooooo! Newbie member.
MISSION RETURN THE CAT TO THE ROAD UPDATE:-
She passed the MOT 1St time, advisory with front tyre and slight misting on one of the forks.
Well pleased with that now a step closer just the mod 2 to go then I'm well away.
