MT-09 / 900 Recalls
I know there are a few on here who have a variant of the Yamaha 847cc triple, either as the 'Naked', Tracer or the XSR. I'm posting in case you haven't seen this elsewhere - Thundercat owners may gloat over this
Initially it was thought only the North American and Japanese/Asian models were affected but today I have read it applies to the European models too.
The item in question the the lower handlebar support, which apparently if struck at the wrong angle can come off, Ouch! Mention is made of paint and insufficient loctite, all I can work out is it is a bit of a biggie safety problem.
The Yamaha recall website doesn't mention it, I believe letters are to be sent out soon by Yamaha UK to everyone affected, even those out of warranty. By now quite a few bikes will have new owners.

Re: MT-09 / 900 Recalls
Recalls are recalls. Shouldn't matter if its out of warranty. If its a safety matter, they have to fix every one affected. Sounds a bit alarming though but ill get my headlight wiring fixed at the same time.

Re: MT-09 / 900 Recalls
I called my dealer today following up on my tail light bracket which has sheered and has a claim with Yamaha, asked if they knew about the handlebar recall and they did - took less than 3 minutes to submit the claim.
I believe these are the vin numbers, I suspect this is a German listing. I'm sure you'll figure bis means to

It affects all MT-09's and the XSR which might not be listed, this list seems to only cover the Tracer

Thanks Steve
It does look as if mine is in the first range so I'll have to look into this too.

Re: MT-09 / 900 Recalls
Thanks for that, Steve.
As you know, mine is the naked version, so a different VIN series to the ones you've listed.
But I've just looked on Yamaha Motor UK's "modification checker" (https://www.yamaha-motor.eu/uk/services/modification-checker/index.aspx) where you can enter the bike's VIN, and it tells me that "Your vehicle with VIN *JYARN.........* is not in the affected range for any Factory Modification Campaign.
As it happens it's booked in for its first annual service on Tuesday, so I'll double-check with the dealer.
As an aside, I have to be at the dealer's when they open first thing, and at the moment the forecast is for sleet around the time I need to leave home - whatever happened to spring?

Re: MT-09 / 900 Recalls
The Yamaha checker doesn't seem to work, it tells me the same thing. I had a text from my dealer this morning telling me the parts are in and for me book it in.

Re: MT-09 / 900 Recalls
Letters from Yamaha are being delivered, some people have said theirs have arrived today.
On Saturday I got a txt from my dealer telling me the parts have arrived and I must make an appointment to have it sorted. Looks like the dealer did a bulk parts request, or as they put it, to help speed up the process for their good customers

Re: MT-09 / 900 Recalls
Took the bike in for its service this morning. Got home to find a letter from Yamaha. They could have timed that a bit better!
Any idea what these new parts are, Steve?

Re: MT-09 / 900 Recalls
I think it is item 14, on the 09 Naked (MT-09A) and it looks to be the same on the XSR, the Tracer has a different part

It is item 13 for the Tracer

Re: MT-09 / 900 Recalls
The previous owner of my bike very kindly got in touch and forwarded me a scanned copy of the letter which had gone out to him.
I'm just back from the dealer, so my bike is booked in for Saturday (as long as the parts arrive on time).

Re: MT-09 / 900 Recalls
The recall search on the Yamaha uk site now appears to register this fault. At least it does now for my VIN number.
Here is the link to the search page.

And (assuming it works) the resulting PDF related to this issue.

Re: MT-09 / 900 Recalls
My bike, one of the very first MT-09, is affected too. My dealer got in touch to tell me he ordered the parts and will let me know when they arrive.
There's a page on the japanese Yamaha website which has a diagram of what exactly needs to be changed here:

Anyway... I'm not really too worried about this. Had the bike since March 2014 from new and done just over 25,000 km now. Also just done a long weekend in the Alps as a "season starter" and had no issues. So will get this done whenever the parts arrive and it's convenient for me.
This is the 3rd recall for me now... ABS and headlight were the ones done previously and I had the CCT replaced under warranty. Still, overall I'm really happy with the bike
