fightered cat ideas ? Empty fightered cat ideas ?

Post  Guest Fri Jul 17 2009, 18:55

hi all, ive started working on the thundercat i smashed up last year, it was supposed to be a simple fairing swap !
however i must have hit the ground harder than i remember, the subframe is twisted and a tube is snapped, the front left of the deltabox is slightly stovedin (insert expletives).

im not sure what to do with it ? the mainframe looks straight, the engines probably good needs covers, im thinking of getting the motor working, hacking off the subframe just past the big pressed section at the small box section leaving enough to bolt onto a nice new(ish) subframe, then it should be functional ie with seat in line with bars.

havent investigated the forks (bust seals) or swingarm (very rusty)or anything else. Im aware this post is a bit rambling i hope to get a bit more speccific on the viability of the thing and post some pics, its was a good job i did lol clink

can anyone link to fightered cats? any practical info on the subframe issue gratefully received

Hi Yoseph,

Firstly welcome to the site.

Second (not being a spanners) are you sure you can put the bike back on the road when the subframe has been fettled in that mannor. As I say i have no idea in the mechanical dept. Mechy69 is yer man there.

Must have been quite a bump you had, hope you didn't suffer to much of a personal twisting in the smack !

A link to the pictures you mention in the debutaunt section would be good.

As to fightered cats, I have seen one or two . Not sure if they have a dedicated site though. I'm sure Street Fighters have and you'll maybe find the odd fettled cat there, although there mostly bandit 1200s I should think.

Wish you good fortune getting it back together (in whatever form) and hopefully see you on one of our many ride-outs.

Cheers

Hi Yoseph and welcome.

Sorry I can't offer any help on the fighter front.....but I hope you manage to get it sorted.

What happened to make it "stovedin"

Cheers

thanks for response ive had a bit more inspiration on modded cats. in the short term i think im gonna cut the bent subby down to fit a single seat race fairing over it, and go for a r6 subby bolt on eventually.

all assuming i find no more issues and get the motor running...

beyond that im thinking about an ally swingarm new shock, possibly upsidedownys depending on the price of seals and any further fork damage. cut down top fairing and belly pan losing the middles, before going for a new rosi race rep fairing lol. basically i need to do doing more research on parts interchangeability, fit and costs.

must sort out a photobucket so i can show you the damage, thats allways interesting Laughing
basically i was riding like a twat on way to work in wimbledon at 0300 sat mornin, an oncoming taxi turned right accross me without indicating, i overreacted locked up the back and binned it

"dont find any further issues........" found a further issue.
alternator cover has taken a big chunk of engine case with it, the rotor is also bent.

now thinking, its more than a cosmetic and controls fix, not up for engine work i should break it. you may all see a list of parts coming soon....

well ive given this a bit of thought now. What with the twisted subbie and broken engine case, the most its gonna be is a spare loan out sort of bike, im not gonna spend huge sums on it. therefor ive got to breakit to recover as much as i can.
The time andmoney i would spend onit i could use on a different projcet thats much nearer completion. Im getting the tyres swapped over for scrap ones i can use the bt14s coming off it.

im gonna offer it as a carcass, if i dont get a few hundred offered will break it.
useable discs
calipers
headlight/clocks/frame
stainless exhaust/head/carbs
fuel pump/loom
should get me something back

scuffed wheels/blown forks/bent chassis/rusty swingarm/old shock/tatty fairings
not worth much

i cant see anything more sensible to do with it grumpy
thanks for your replies made the grim journey of discovery a little less crap

I'm sorry to hear that. Not to sound like a vulture, if you do the break route, I'd be interested in the header pipes.
