Handle bar Vibes !!!!!!!!!!!
Hi all
Anyone got a good cure for handle bar vibes, no mater how gently i try to hold the grips, I still end up with numb hands and sometimes pretty quickly. Took the bar ends out tonight and found they are already pretty heavy even as the standard yam ones. Any better ones out there any good cures, was thinking of putting in small lead shot in a bag like those i have for diving weight, any idea if that would foul the throttle mech up etc.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated as a fair bit of touring to do in the next couple of months
cheers

Re: Handle bar Vibes !!!!!!!!!!!
It might be worth tracking down the source of the vibes rather than curing the symptoms. Maybe the carbs need a balance and/or tune-up? My Cat is as smooth as silk with standard bar-ends - never had a numb finger. I do get an occasional numb little toe but a quick wiggle and it's sorted.

Damn. I looked at the title of this thread and thought perhaps it was a link to some good music.
Ooops.

Thinking a bit more, it might also be engine mount tightness or soundness.

Will have a check of engine mounts its a 02 plate but still only 6K on it and not been hammered but at least a few things to consider. As you point out best to find the cause not cover the symptoms. I really did not know if the vibes was a common issue as oppossed to it being a symptom of something a little amiss.

Re: Handle bar Vibes !!!!!!!!!!!
I'd go for wheel balancing first, Its also worth checking for any abnormal tyre wear issues too.
Its always worth checking the basics first & then working through the trickier stuff after as its usually some thing simple.

Re: Handle bar Vibes !!!!!!!!!!!
The common cure for vibes is carb balance,, or get the wheel balance check (although i have never had that one),check wheel bearings as well

Thanks Mechy, It will improve the bike no end if I can actually feel the blinking thing not have numb hands and with a tour of Belgium coming up need it sorted so plenty to go at for now. Will report back on how the hunt for the cause of the Vibes goes.

I only ever get numbness in my right hand, no where else. Its realy starting to annoy me so I may go get the wheels balanced.

Re: Handle bar Vibes !!!!!!!!!!!
I started getting a numb right hand and foot after the last service. Before this have had the wheels balanced and new bearings, so have ruled these out.
Bike went back for a check today and the carbs were found to be slightly out. Will have to see if the problem has gone away, but pretty sure it would have.
I had not experienced this when this thread started, and could not imagine how bad the numbness could be - but can say it is 'rather' unpleasant. Found that I tired way quicker than normal and this has affected my riding. Such a small thing
