Interested in a Peak District Ride
Your views please.....
Just thinking aloud but I wondered how much interest there would be in a Peak District ride?
Probably late spring/early summer next year?
It's heavily policed, 50 mph on most roads and there's a fair amount of traffic but there are some lovely roads/views.
Chesterfields a good base as there's plenty of cheap accommodation/good beer & places to eat.
Could do with your thoughts, is it a goer or a damp squib?
Thanks for your thoughts peeps.

Re: Your views please.....
Didn't the Crusader ride go out that way a few years ago? I seem to remember riding through Chatsworth one time. There's plenty of good roads up that way and depending on timing and circumstances I'd be up for it.

Re: Your views please.....
It did indeed Paul.
Still have the route if you're at all interested ellie ?
Took in Chatsworth, Snake Pass, Cat & Fiddle and the road twix'd Whaley Bridge and Buxton plus many other nice wee gems.
As ellie says, some smashing roads, tons of views . . . but like everywhere policed and over compensated with 50mph signs.
Stay off the well beaten track though and there's still fun to be had

Re: Your views please.....
Avoid the cat and fiddle as the road surface is way past its best (probably to help keep the speed down on corners).
I did it in Sept and was a bit miffed to say the least with the road surface and average speed camera's.
We will probably be up for that ride out though if it gets the go ahead!

Re: Your views please.....
Sorry Ellie, too much plod and cameras around there for me. Maybe an idea for anyone who wants a sedate rideout or just a sight seeing bimble.
Might be a good one for novices or folks who are not used to riding in a group tho? If you know what I mean?

Re: Your views please.....
I wouldn't do the cat and fiddle and id probably look at the south of the county as the roads are better and less policed.
Funnily enough I've not seen a speed trap or police car while I've been running the bike in or all year really but we avoid the popular routes like the plague.

Re: Your views please.....
I ride around there a lot and can honestly hand on heart say I've only ever seen one plod and that was parked up in Matlock handing out bikesafe leaflets.
I'd defo be up for a ride out "closer to home"

Might be interested in this. Not been up that way for a long time. Was going to do a ride out to Matlock this summer with my brother but it never happened.

Hi Ellie,
If I'm about count me in. Haven't ridden in The Peaks for a while, other than en-route to BC.

Re: Your views please.....
That's a "maybe" from me - depends on lots of other goings-on.
Peak District was my stamping ground when I lived in Sheffield, so it would be good to revisit a few of the old haunts. No 50's and fewer tourists then, though.
P.s. Does anyone else find it ironic to get stuck behind a camper van called a "Rapido"?

Yes Bob lol ...depending on timing and whether my bike is still alive (just clocked 60k) I should be up for it, I'm sure Alley cat would tag along too.

Completely agree. I wouldn't do Snake Pass either. It's a ditto on the road surface and so popular it's heavily policed. I merely stated those were in the "Crusader" ride of yesteryore.ellie wrote:I wouldn't do the cat and fiddle and id probably look at the south of the county as the roads are better and less policed.

I'd be happy to pootle along at the back bringing up the rear [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] . . . Timing and Health allowing
Re: Your views please.....
there was only one part of the cat and fiddle I thought poorly surfaced and that was about 3 bends in from the Macclesfield end. gravel on a fairly sharp left hander. snake pass was ok surfacing too and I prob did it 10+ times over summer. my ride normally took in snake pass, a6, cat and fiddle and the a523 and a53 back into buxton then long hill and home through Glossop. the blanket 50 is a shitter but ive had some fun up there so would defo be up for a ride out with the gang as im only up the road.
