Insurance - Gotta Love It!!
So it's that time of the year and my insurance is due. My renewal arrived from Adelaide and despite me being a year older (and wiser), having another years NCB, and that insurance policies in general seem to have come down (massive reduction when I shopped around for Mrs Snowcat's car insurance), my premium was threatening to go up by 33%.
I took a bit of a gamble with my insurance last year being that I'd bought the blade which was a big jump and the insurance co's were queuing up to remove my pants I opted to insure TPFF but was hoping to upgrade to fully comp this year. That seemed an unlikely dream until a couple of calls to Carol Nash, they've offered me a policy Fully Comp, including legal cover and AA UK & European breakdown cover, DNA tagging kit and £125 excess for less than I was paying 3rd party last year The Euro breakdown alone will save me £60+ when I hop over to the continent for my annual GP jaunt.
It's on a future classic policy and the mileage is restricted but I'd be surprised if I covered more than 6000 miles, (did less than 3000 this year).
I am now officially a happy bunny

Re: Insurance - Gotta Love It!!
Well done Steve. For a few years I was skirting CN as the premiums were always higher, but they got it right 3 years back. Along came the second Thundercat and I had two to insure, they put me on a bespoke policy - which for me basically means you haggle with a human and not a computer.
The Eurocover is good as is the repatriation of you as well as the bike - some companies will take the bike and leave you find your own way home.

Happy days Steve
A +1 for Carole Nash here too.
Been with them for a few years now. The premium has been steadily rising so I might threaten to leave to see if they will drop the price when it is due for renewal in spring 2014.
Had to use the breakdown recovery a couple of times but never the actual policy.....touchwood.

Re: Insurance - Gotta Love It!!
I've just changed my insurance as I've changed the bike and what amazes me is you can search the same company 4 times and get 4 different quotes!
I managed to get a better deal with the company I was with previously with a lower excess and only £167 a year. For a brand new bike and I've only had my licence 5 years.
It's a job I hate with a passion and really detest the charges they apply to cancel or change a policy.

Re: Insurance - Gotta Love It!!
I don't know how they justify the charges, my existing co wanted £35 to amend the policy because I wanted to put my plate on as the retention is about to run out. I would've been cheaper to put it on retention for another year.

Agree with all the above, I've been singing CN praises for long enough.

+1 for CN for bike insurance. Also pays to use the comparison sites as my car ins renewal landed the other day, £490 , i got a quote of £192 so my current insurer agreed to match the cheaper quote for the same cover.

Re: Insurance - Gotta Love It!!
Snowcat, were you using Adelaide as a member of the IAM? They usually aim to beat quotes so surprised they couldn't offer you the cheapest.

Re: Insurance - Gotta Love It!!
Hi Mike
I did give Adelaide every opportunity but they said that because it wasn't an online quote and I had nothing in writing they couldn't do anything. Plus they'd have struggled to compete with the Euro breakdown cover included in the price. They'd have had to beat the quote and subtract over £60 to compete.

Re: Insurance - Gotta Love It!!
I tried Adelaide for the first time this year and they were not the cheapest, or best cover. Yes they were very friendly and I will go back to them for a quote.
My view on insurance is give me your quote for what I want and I'll consider it, but don't then change your price when I say I have a cheaper quote. That says to me you're not pricing on cost, but on what you think the customer will pay. I have no loyalty to insurers any more and won't play their game. Now if everyone did this.....
So don't ever accept the renewal quotation with out getting alternatives. And only buy what you need - 'free' extras are not free.
Wow, I'm cynical old phart!

Swings and roundabouts though Terry.terry lees wrote:It comes with old age. (cynicism) I should know.
While you've gained cynicism, stubbornness & grumpy-ness
You've lost your patience, your marbles and your sense of humour.
Wouldn't change you though.....we've lost the receipt.
