The Z might get replaced...
... by a Yamaha!
I've had my Z750 from new since 2004 and it has never let me down. I really enjoyed every ride on it and always thought I'd keep it forever.
But now Mr Yamaha thought he'd make this new MT-09 and I just had to try it out.
Just came back from a cold but dry test-ride and I'm still grinning!
Here some pics of the bike I rode...
It's great fun and the sound of the 3-cylinder is amazing, even with the standard can. And it's got a "Mode" button! "A", "Standard" and "B"... On "A" it basically wheelies by itself and to be honest I found "B" most comfortable...
I'd want to get it in "Race Blu" with ABS... like this:

Delivery would probably be in February or March.
Now the trade-in offered for mine isn't as much as I was hoping but he did drop the MT's price a bit so I've still not quite decided...
What do you guys think? Should I change bikes?

Re: The Z might get replaced...
Fairings are for "Fairies"
It's actually more comfortable than the Z... wouldn't have thought by looking at it.
Oh... just ordered it

I quite like it! As Steve said, if you like it then why not. What have you got to lose?

Hope you went for the "race blu" and not that 'orrible orange one mate . . . . or are you making a bid for the return of "Orange-Storm" ?
Re: The Z might get replaced...
Nah... I'm too old for orange bikes now. And I don't have the matching helmet any more either...

Re: The Z might get replaced...
Have you tried the new Z800? Just been stood next to one on the kawasaki dealer and it's lush in Kwak green.
Looks really mean!

Re: The Z might get replaced...
Maybe it's just me, but a lot of bikes look like that these days.
It might be a symptom of austerity, but they look like engines and afterthoughts.
As in, "We have the engine, now how do we save money on the rest of it?"
(The high shaved tail doesn't really do anything for me tbh.)

Re: The Z might get replaced...
It does look mean though I'm not sure about the hump-back tank... Also the price for those is about €1000 more than the MT-09!ellie wrote:Have you tried the new Z800? Just been stood next to one on the kawasaki dealer and it's lush in Kwak green.

Anyway, I just wanted something different after over 9 years of Z750 so it had to be the triple seeing as I started on a single, then Boxer, then V-twin and then the in-line four
On a side-note... was just digging through the paperwork I still have for the Z and found the original invoice from when I bought it from On-Yer-Bike near Aylesbury. I only paid £4799 for it, what a bargain! Amazed that it only lost about half its value in all those years (or the Pound de-valued a lot since)

Re: The Z might get replaced...
Think you're right... just had a look at historic conversion rates because I wanted to know exactlyWooster wrote:Probably the latter.
Turns out... courtesy of xe.com
in August 2004 £1 was around €1.48
today £1 is about €1.18
So at the time the bike was about €7100 and now that's only about €5650.
That's a drop of €1450 or around 20% just because of the £ dropping!

Re: The Z might get replaced...
Finally got the long awaited call from the Yamaha dealer last night! My new bike has arrived and just in time for the start of the season here as my license plate is 03-10 (March to October)
However, they still need to put it together and there's already a recall due to an ABS issue so that needs doing still too. Should be another week or two until I can actually pick it up. But so glad it actually arrived after reading so much scaremongering on the net about supply issues and dealers having to cancel already signed contracts...
Can't wait to get on it and out there now

That's a relief, not so good there is already a recall, lets hope that the only problem. Enjoy.

Re: The Z might get replaced...
Finally can pick it up on Monday.
Will go to the "Landratsamt" first thing to get it registered. Already reserved the license plate "PAF TG 1" (PAF is the code for our "Landkreis" and TG are my initials ).
Then straight to the dealer to finally get on it...
Can't wait now! Never thought I'd want a weekend to be over already

Re: The Z might get replaced...
Finally got it!
Picked it up this morning and been riding around 250km already. That's a quarter run in... at this rate I'll need to take it for the first 1000km service by the end of the week
Been home an hour now and still haven't stopped grinning It just pulls like a train in any gear... Awesome
Here some photos...

I likes that, I run my Z in all in one day & returned it the following day for its first service.... One of my best biking days for sure ;-)
