Some TLC for Thundercat
First topic message reminder :
Here is a picture of my Thundercat I purchased in April 2012, it had only done 2400 miles.
I have almost stripped the bike right down, apart from taking the engine out of the frame. I have had various parts powder coated: Swingarm, relay arm, connecting rods, rear brake caliper bracket, torsion arm, clutch cover, sprocket cover, starter clutch cover, generator cover, etc.
Back of the engine before cleaning.
After cleaning.
Front of engine before cleaning.
After cleaning.
I have cleaned up the rear of the frame, removed all rust and cure rusted & painted with hammerite silver smooth finish.
Before.
After.
I have fitted new bearings & thrust covers to the swingarm, and cleaned & re-greased the relay arm bearings and fitted new dust seals.
Here are some before and after pictures of the swingarm, relay arm and connecting rods.
I have had the rear shock absorber rebuilt the spring powder coated and re-plated by brook suspension.
Here are some before and after pictures.
At the moment I am preparing the wheels, forks, sprocket carrier, fairing bracket and various other parts for powder coating, painting & vapour blasting. I have had various other parts re-plated and powder coated & fitted stainlees steel bolts to the engine covers.

Re: Some TLC for Thundercat
Sorry it’s been a long time since the last update, but my disabled son  got excluded from his school last year and myself and my wife had to find him a new special school that could cope with his issues (Autism, ADHD, Severe learning difficulties and Global developmental delay). We found him a new school , which is about 40 miles away from home and he seems much happier there. He lives at his new school and comes home every three weeks at the weekend. I blamed myself for this and I lost interest in quite a lot of things including getting the bike finished, I have now started to work on the bike again and hope to have it finished by the end of April.
I also had a couple of issues with the bike:
Fuel pump was leaking.
One of the down pipes was not getting as hot as the others.
Fitted a new fuel pump. I purchased the new fuel pump from Fuel Performance Ltd, which has a lifetime guarantee and is made by High Flow.
I cleaned the pilot jet in the carburettor, (which looked partially blocked) to cure the issue with the down pipe.
See pictures below of what has been done to the bike.

Re: Some TLC for Thundercat
Glad to hear your lad's happy and settled in mate.
So when will the bike be ready to sell to me?
Go on, you'll get bored without a project and you can have my nice blue one as P/X.

Glad things are on the up with your son,
What did you do with the top yoke???
I've tried polishing it but not getting anywhere with it??

Re: Some TLC for Thundercat
Glad to hear things are stabilising with your lad, and you are coming to terms with yourself again. Guilt is a terrible thing to shoulder.
Bike's shaping up to be a beautiful lady.
Be careful not to put her on a pedestal so high that you'll not want to ride her and show her off
Hope to see her in the metal some day
Cheers

Thanks, the bike should be finished by the end of April.
I can't sell it as I don't think dgsdale would be too happy! He has made a lot of stainless parts for it, and I also need to ride it after all that work.

Thanks.
I used wet and dry and scotch brite to get the finish on the top yoke, and had it painted on the bottom and around the sides & then laquared all over.

I didn't think I'd have a hope in hell of persuading you otherwise mate.
It's looking absolutely mint...better than when it left the factory I'd bet.
Re: Some TLC for Thundercat
Wow!! I both admire and hate you for this bike, On one hand it's amazing seeing a thundercat in that condition and the dedication you've put into it especially with what's going on in your life.
But on the other hand it's now made me realise just how rough mine is and now its gonna cost me a fortune in new parts and cleaning products haha
But above all else.... Bravo sir

Glad to hear your son is settling in at his school and hope everything works out well for him there.
The bike is stunning, in the bestest colours and very nearly as good looking as mine. (2 out of 3 ain't bad)
Enjoy
Cheers
Rosco
PS. Carlsberg don't do Thundercat porn but if they did......this would be it!!!

Re: Some TLC for Thundercat
That is just amazing & deserves to be featured in one of the motor cycle magazines, possibly classic bike or something.
Now I'm proud of how well my old cat looks but yours is very special. Well done mate.

Re: Some TLC for Thundercat
That's turned out really nice.
How about a wee LED smoked tail light to finish it off?
