Cotswolds V.2 - 2nd November
I decided to use what may well have been the last day of proper summer to do a first recce of the reverse route. And this time Fish Hill was devoid of ****s in overloaded Kia Picanto's clogging up the overtaking lane.
Well, it's not exactly the reverse of last time's route. In fact a lot of it will be different, but hopefully just a enjoyable. And this time, as there should be a bit less tourist stuff about, we can go through one or two more picturesque places that I avoided previously.
I'll stick with my proposal to start at Hein Gericke Oxford (actually about 5 miles west of Oxford on the A40, but still reasonably accessible and findable). But that does involve a fairly long first leg - about 50 miles and 1 1/2 hours - to a decent coffee stop, which is at a farm shop a little to the west of Stow-on-the Wold. Not the cheapest, but the cake is worth the trip and there is plenty of outdoor seating.
Then we'll go via Chipping Camden and up Fish Hill to Broadway Tower. That's only about another half-hour's riding, but it will still take us to about 12:30, and I got the impression that most felt it was a good place to stop for lunch, as well as having a good view.
Then the last leg will meander down through Guiting Power and Andoversford and we can get some fuel near Cirencester (where the south-western brigade can peel off if they wish) before a final blast up through Bibury to finish at the same pub by the River Windrush as last time - again, plenty of space to sit outside.
I'll be doing a couple more runs to firm up on the exact route for the bits around Chipping Camden and Guiting Power - when I did it yesterday I used some fairly twiddly roads and there may be better alternatives that need to be checked out.
I just hope the weather is as kind at the end of October as it was two weeks ago.

Somehow I either missed this thread . . . or because of the (prescribed) meds it slipped my mind.
However, . . If I'm not still a broken wing, I shall do my bestist to be there this time Bob [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Re: Cotswolds V.2 - 2nd November
As last time, very interested but dependent on circumstance. I am expecting to move into our newly-renovated house some time before or around that weekend, so may be neck-deep in boxes. I may either need a stress-busting run-out or be forbidden from leaving until it is straight.

Re: Cotswolds V.2 - 2nd November
Due to unforeseen family circumstances I can't make the original date so I've scheduled this for a week later -which means it'll be GMT and start to get dark in the middle of the afternoon - arrgh.
Apologies to everyone.

Re: Cotswolds V.2 - 2nd November
Hi Bob,
I have already PM'd you with a note form my mum
But that date also moves the event squarely into Poppy-tide and mostly over that period you'll see me and my former colleagues up and down the country doing our bit (again), in an establishment somewhere near you, for the Poppy Appeal [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.].
So my apologies, but I shall be unable to attend the V2.0 Cotswolds' ride . . . . You all have a good day now though, and wrap up well.
Regards & Ride Safe

Re: Cotswolds V.2 - 2nd November
For anyone who might still be thinking of coming along, just a reminder that I/we will be starting off at 10 am sharp from Hein Gericke's "Oxford" branch, which is actually on the A40 at Eynsham, several miles west of Oxford city, postcode OX29 4EN.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Turn in through the petrol station on the eastern side of the Eynsham roundabout. So no excuse for an empty tank, then.
