Biker Racing in North Yorkshire
Any of you guys up that neck of the woods heard of this:
As reported as well, deaths this year are already up to 11 compared with 2 last year.
The buggers are going to ruin Yorkshire bike riding for the rest of us. and I bet these are the first to complain about Police speed traps!
From: BBC News Site
He said intelligence had been gathered suggesting bikers were staging races between car parks in market towns such as Helmsley and Stokesley and using parking tickets bought at each end as proof of their speed.

Re: Biker Racing in North Yorkshire
Unfortunately the minority always ruin it for the majority, it's usually the case that the ignorance of the general public at large will tar all riders with the same brush on reading this. It's funny when the tosser in merseyside clocked doing over 140mph, got banned from driving for 3 years, laughed at the judge in court and said "you won't stop me from driving, catch me if you can".
There is no public outcry that people drive cars recklessly or too fast, again it's just the minority bikers that are victimised by these headlines.
It's a shame but no amount of campaigning by MAG and the others will secure equal rights for bikers and other road users.
Even cyclists now get priority on the road over motorcyclists, my advice, keep riding like you've got a target on your back, keep your eyes open and be careful. If the haters wanna hate them let them, the narrow minded view of the police and general public will not stop me enjoying my pastime.

Re: Biker Racing in North Yorkshire
North Yorkshire's top five high risk routes, avoid for the following reasons.....
B1222 Sherburn to Stillingfleet - Over-rated, full of tossers on GSXRs
B1257 Stokesley to Helmsley - Great road, ruined by tossers on GSXRs
A59 Skipton to Harrogate - Cars, caravans, lorries, best left to tossers on GSXRs
A170 Thirsk to Scarborough - See above.
A65 Ingleton to Skipton - and again.....
Don't get too pi**ed off John, there are many, many fine roads in Yorkshire. On S'n'T we'll not be doing any of the above and can therefore enjoy ourselves whilst the idiots continue to chuck themselves into the scenery on the countys most heavily policed thoroughfares.

am still pissed off as I probably wont be able to Make S'n'T. Ironically will have plenty of dosh from my Redundancy (10Yrs) but will be working Saturdays in the New Job.
I do get Mondays off instead so will have to console myself with a Track Day or two.

That's nonsense.Snowcat wrote:

White Van Man and Boy Racer* have had far more bad publicity over the years than any biker. Just today they've brought in spot fines for Middle Lane Hogger and Mobile Phone Fanny.
(Eastern European Truck Driver has also made a lot of mentions over the years.. )
This isn't victimisation, it's just reporting a story.
*so much has been made of that over the years that the insurance companies charge them a damn fortune to insure a cheap car.
..they'll cite figures that teenage boys are more likely to be involved in an accident, but omit the fact that a fair percentage of those cases probably involved a stolen car and they had no insurance anyway.
Now that's victimisation.
Re: Biker Racing in North Yorkshire
p.s. I think they should bring in more fines for Hesitant Woman @ Roundabout and Fatally Slow Motorway Merger.
Re: Biker Racing in North Yorkshire
Just to add my twopenny worth, quite a few years ago a 40 mph speed limit was introduced along most of this road, and there is often a heavy police presence, I appreciate that this won't stop some determined nutters but a lot of this is all hype. I remember someone once telling me that the latest "record" for the "Yorkshire TT" was so many minutes, I produced a calculator and worked it out that the riders average speed would have been about 130 MPH, so it was complete rubbish, more hype. A most bizarre accident occurred on this road a few years ago, a maniac came around one of the bends so wide he hit a glancing blow to a biker coming the other way. ON HIS NEARSIDE this caused him to crash resulting in his death. The perpetrator didn't crash, nor did he stop. The police spent many months looking for this maniac, the only real clue they had was some bits of paint left on the deceased's bike, and if my memory serves me, I think it was Suzuki blue. The police never found this rider, they are still looking.

Re: Biker Racing in North Yorkshire
Yay for all us thoughtful riders who never break the speed limit and ride sensibly everywhere.
Re: Biker Racing in North Yorkshire
Ellie, I'm outraged that you are not outraged by this outrage!
