new police speed detector vans
My son is manager of a local roadside/recovery company, they also have the police contract for removing accident damaged vehicles etc. He therefore spends quite a lot of time with the local traffic officers. I happened to be in his office the other day when one of them came in. He is particularly matey with this one, and the subject quickly got round to speeding. I mentioned that I had passed some sort of detection van the other day, and that it did'nt have any markings, also that had I been speeding (what me speed) there was no officer up the road, to pull me in. Ah says he, thats our latest tool, one man can operate it, besides the camera in the back door, mounted on the roof inside a round plastic dome is a laser detector, this automatically picks up any speeding vehicle approaching from the rear and films it from the moment its detected right up untill it reaches the van and is locked on as it passes the van and continues on up the road, so it can read your rear No. plate. The only saving grace is that it can't detect you coming from the other direction, although if you'r speeding as you pass it, it will pick you up, resulting in a nice buff envelope popping through your letter box a few days later. This is the first of three vehicles on order from N.Y. police authority, and each vehicle will operate a daily two shift system from 7am to 11 pm. He also let it be known that many other police authorities have these vehcles on order as well. This is very serious sh** Oh and the laser will almost certainly pick you up before you even see the van. Thats nice Sunday morning reading d'ont you think?

Actually thats onother thing the police officer said, these new vans are a direct response to the fact that everyone knows where the fixed camera sites are.

If you're going to be prosecuted for speeding you need to be served a Notice of Intended Prosecution within 14 days, so I reckon you got away with that one!
