Thundercat for sale (Oxford/Reading area)
Hi all,
I have had my Thundercat for the best part of 8 years and from looking at the old MOTs can see I have done less than 3000 miles on her in that time! My wife keeps telling me to sell it, I always take it out to think about it, go for a ride and then decide to keep it! However, this time I am actually doing something about it (posting this add) and the money would come in handy upsizing the car with a second child on the way!
Below are some details:
mileage is at 28176. (Now at about 28190 after riding to MOT centre)
Paperwork for:
MOT Miles
Jan 13 28187
Jan 12 28102
Jan 11 28085
Jan 10 27913
Jan 09 27629
Sep 06 26907
Aug 05 25381
Aug 04 21849
Jun 03 19715
Other paperwork for:
Jan 12 new battery
Oct 11 Carb overhaul
Jan 11 Service Oil
Jan 09 New Chain, Sprocket, Front tyre and battery
Aug 06 Service Oil and Spark plugs
Aug 05 Service Oil
Aug 04 Service Oil and Spark plugs
Total of eleven stamps in service book.
I have had the bike since Apr 05 and done less than 3000 miles!
The bike is Datataged. I have two keys but slightly bent one a few months ago by twisting it the wrong way when trying to unlock the seat!
The bike is MOT'd and Taxed until the end of Jan 14 (you can see I have done 85 miles this year!)
Everything original except for the aftermarket street legal can which was on the bike when I bought it.
I had it as my first (and only) bike so had it restricted, clearly this kit has been out for several years but will come included if anyone wants to put it back in. I have never crashed or dropped the bike. It also has a Accumax trickle charger fitted.
I have had a quick look around (admitedly on autotrader!) and seen most Thundercats start around £1500 from a dealer, and they are older, higher mileage.
This bike is the same age, colour and mileage and is going for £1850! http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201201440209960/sort/recpriceascdefault/usedbikes/maximum-age/over_10_years_old/cc-from/500cc/cc-to/700cc/price-to/3000/model/yzf/make/yamaha/page/3/radius/1501/postcode/ox106ef?logcode=p
I am going to advertise it for £1,295 which I think is reasonable for the pretty low mileage and general good clean condition of the bike, and I would be open to reasonable offers.
As mentioned in the title, I am located in between Oxford and Reading, easy to get to and close to Cholsey and Didcot train stations If you needed to travel and ride the bike home.
Any questions or if you want more photos let me know. (Rob 07989 340420)

Nice bike that for someone wanting in to Thundercat ownership.
You must be up the road from me; I'm in Tilehurst but daughter goes to school in Moulsford; we're moving to Chilton some time soon.
GLWTS!

Thanks Weasley, I think it is a nice bike and it always makes me think how you can't get anywhere near the thrills for that sort money anywhere else (well skydiving is pretty good!).
I am just up the road from Moulsford, near Wallingford. I see loads of bikers most weekends congregating at H Cafe on the Berinsfield roundabout.

Re: Thundercat for sale (Oxford/Reading area)
Welcome to the forum.
KEEP YOUR BIKE AT ALL COSTS!! I was in your situation many moons ago, my 'kids' are 22 and 17 now, but held on to my bike (a FZ750 in those days..wonderful bike), my mileage tailed away to a couple of hundred miles a year too, but it once a bike is gone it will be really hard to justify the cash to buy another one, as good for a paltry £1200.
Times changed the kids got older, the money eased, the miles (and smiles) came back.
Anyway your in the bestest, fastest colours!!

Re: Thundercat for sale (Oxford/Reading area)
I have had a few people ask and yes the bike is still currently for sale.
If it doesn't sell in the next few weeks I will probably end up MOT, Taxing and insuring it and then have no urge to sell.
RADAR looks like your advice may be followed after all! Anyway I was looking at the Bishops Castle ride in June which interests me since that is where the in-laws live; get to kill 2 birds with 1 stone then!

Re: Thundercat for sale (Oxford/Reading area)
Hi there,
Sorry I haven't got back sooner, just seen post. I just reinsured the bike last week and it is going for its MOT and Tax this Sat so any offers I might have considered last week will need to be closer to the mark now because the money I have just spent on it. My number is up in the original post if you want to ring and chat about it.

Congratulations / Commiserations (delete as appropriate).
If you are doing so few miles on her it probably makes financial sense to sell her if you need the money for other things and then after a wee while you can do a bike hire track-day you'll come rushing back
Cheers

Re: Thundercat for sale (Oxford/Reading area)
Cheers Rosco,
Obviously sad to see it go but it has found a good home and will be used more now which is good. As for the track day thing, I live on an RAF station and I think they might/used to do one every year, like the Waddington one. I will find out if it is still going; the price to every one I sponsor to get in for the day could be a few laps on their bike!!!! They also do a charity 24 hour mopedathon each year which usually looks pretty fun.

Re: Thundercat for sale (Oxford/Reading area)
Hmmm.... Oxon/Berkshire borders, RAF base..... Abingdon has gone..... I'm guessing you see a lot of helicopters?! If so, I'm pretty sure I saw them doing at least one 'track day' there last year.

Re: Thundercat for sale (Oxford/Reading area)
Yes Weasley I see helicopters everyday, and funnily enough although Abingdon is now an army barracks, we still use the airfield an aweful lot. I see last year there was a track day in June here at Benson, I will look into if there is one this year and post details for people who would be interested.
