Removing seat without key.. Empty Removing seat without key..

Post  covcat Sat Sep 01 2012, 14:55

Is it possible to remove the seat without the key?

I have lost the key and suspect ive put it under the seat.
Can i remove the seat without the key?

I have put a magnet on the battery tray to see if it would attract or rattle...but no luck.

Can you buy keys to fit the barrel from Yamaha?

thanks

You're not the first to do this . . . . . . and yes you can open / unlock the seat without the key. There is a thread on this one somewhere, I just can't be a**ed to look for it at the mo Guinness Wink

I believe it is or has to do with a steel wire that operates the release mechanism when you turn the key. Find this wire with the deft use of a coat hanger and yer in . . . . . as far as memory serves.
Sorry can't be more help than that wink thumb up

That's pretty much it. I actually had a look for that other thread but couldn't find it. The lock pulls on a short cable which unlatches the seat. You have to be able to pull on this cable. Last time we discussed this I suggested removing the seat lock and simply tugging it to pull the latch open. The lock is held on by two security Torx bolts.

More radical would be to drill a hole from under the wheel arch and pop the latch with a flat head screw driver and then fill the hole with mastik.

As I said, radical and last hope and you would have to have a good idea where the latch is located which I dont think would be to difficult to work out.

Good luck.

I once had to pull the back of the seat up and get a neighbour with small hands to get in there and fish around for the keys.

I blamed Topdec....

Sounds simple but did you get two keys with the bike? If so can you find the spare one?
