Help - First Motorbike Tour!
Hey Everyone,
This has rather crept up on me, and I've realised I haven't got long left to organise this!
I booked the second week of September off ages ago, but with lots on at work and at home, I haven't had a chance to think about actually what I'm doing!
Can anyway recommend places to go/see/stay?
The bike is in fine fettle and will be serviced before I go (just had two new tyres also) and a new chain and sprockets.
I have a full set of Oxford Panniers/top case so carrying is sorted.
I plan to take a tent, and combine camping/staying somewhere depending on cost.
Any advice/tips?
Thanks!
Andy.

Re: Help - First Motorbike Tour!
Which direction would you like to go? You fussed about the mileage getting there?
Devon and Cornwall are good destinations, hopefully by the time you go all the caravans will be off the roads - and some crackers there are too (roads :o ). If that the sort of direction you would like, then this post [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] has some route ideas.
You could always start your biking touring experience with a bang ( not literally ) and leave the country Ferry might be a bit expensive, but you could always pop over to the Isle of Man. A good (well it looked OK from the car park) camp site is located not too far from Douglas, can dig out the name if you like. My interest there was the wooden huts, so you can leave the tent behind but take the rest of the camping gear - you have a lock up tent
Doubt I need to mention there is a particular route there which is good but some of the off main roads are also good, surface might not be TT standard though. I was there for 4 days and found plenty to do.

Re: Help - First Motorbike Tour!
Cheers Steve, I'm actually tempted to hit Ireland but I forgot that bit in my OP!
Ferries are £102 return from what I can find (Holyhead to Dublin) and as I'm in Cheshire, it's only a 2 hour blast away.
I really should have planned this sooner!

Did you see the [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] on doing the southern bits.
Sorry can't help with camp sites, was trying to locate some with those lock-up wooden boxes again and couldn't find any.

Wherever you go enjoy!
I have not ridden in Ireland, but I believe it is great. Have you thought abou Northumberland? Some great places to see and some corking roads too?

Re: Help - First Motorbike Tour!
Make sure you've got an EHIC card (free to get) and european insurance and breakdown cover.
European travel insurance that specifically covers using a bike bigger than a 125cc - most standard policies don't......Deffo a must have on the continent but not 100% sure about Ireland.
I say must have but I mean should seriously consider it as a must have.
Hopefully you won't actually need any of the above but better to be well prepared.
Hope you have a great time.

Re: Help - First Motorbike Tour!
Cheers Guys!
I have my EHIC card at the ready, currently looking into travel insurance (better safe than sorry, and you know how it goes, if you have it, you won't need it!).
'Cat is running well, so it's looking good!
