Re: Boots (neew new boots) need advice
Wet feet aren't nice so I'd always try and go for something that claims to be waterproof.
I got a pair at the Scottish motorcycle show that look a bit like the big Sidi ones in terms of add on plastic protection but cost under £70 I seem to remember. They tested waterproof enough for me in NI at Big Mick.
How much extra protection these plastic bit offer I'm not sure - I guess they spread the impact area which must help a bit.
You could always consider 2nd hand ones on ebay for example. Might get top quality ones for rock bottom price.
Good Luck.

Re: Boots (neew new boots) need advice
Going just off the looks, out of all of them I would only look at the bottom row (personal choice, I'd like the support they offer up the leg incase of accident).
Out of the two on the bottom row I would personally go for the bottom right, the black ones.
I loved my Sidi's but they have loads of holes in them for water to get in to, which is fine for summer boots but who are we kidding. The black ones look more water resistant and probably water proof boots, I can't tell you how pleased I am since I got my waterproof boots, and as a bonus, they black ones look a lot less 'messy' than the Sidi's, too much going on with the Sidi's

Re: Boots (neew new boots) need advice
I had a pair of these first and they were spot on, but when I came off at 15-20 mph it broke the zip.

Then Santa bought me these... and they're spot on, I like the support they give, they're waterproof and easy to get on and off becasue its just a zip up the back. I think they were about £120 but would be rude to ask

Re: Boots (neew new boots) need advice
I'm also with the bottom right TCX's. The zip worries me though, might let in the water. I'm not big on the plastic fixtures, especially on boots.
Mine are as plain as you can get, just leather and the rubber sole. People do worry about ankle support on them as there are no visible add on's. The leather is so thick I don't think anything else is needed. This is what they look like, but warning they are not cheap.
When I had my off, my leg was caught under the bike. I had no issues with my feet or legs. The boots and leather trousers worked well. The problem was with my jacket, it has hard plastic shoulder guards - looks the business, but in reality made my injury worse. When my shoulder hit the road all the energy was transferred through that plastic cap.
Sometimes being rigid is good other times some flexibility would be better.

Re: Boots (neew new boots) need advice
I can vouch for bottom left sidi boots as I wear them, superbly comfortable, custom fitting and actually pretty good in wet weather to in all fairness!
But after reading your other thread can't understand why looking at £300 boots and £40 helmet?? Would put more towards helmet and bit less on decent boots!!
Good luck whatever you choose
James

Re: Boots (neew new boots) need advice
I bought a pair of HG (R.I.P) pro sport following a recommendation from a bike mag, cost £120 new, supremely comfortable and waterproof but having had them less than a year I've got to say they aren't very durable, the sole has virtually worn away and I'll be needing a new pair soon, my mate swears by Alpinestars but they are well over £250!! Found these and they look like a pretty good entry level boot.

Perhaps some stabilisers might be on the agenda? Lol... In all seriousness you don't know how serious the next one might be, touch wood you never have to experience one again! You can't put a price on your head,if you have to then don't price it so low!

You can stay within your budget just spend less on the boots and more on the lid

Re: Boots (neew new boots) need advice
On the helmet front I would set a price and get hurting the the best safety rated one, I had the same problem at being of the year. I wanted to change my helmet with cost me £100 and was 3 out of 5 on the saftey rating. I changed it for a £40 helmets with was 4 out of 5 saftey rated. As the store owner said the differnce in price is because of the design on the lid.
Since that I have been online and seen 5 star rated lids for £70
So have a good look about before you buy

Re: Boots (neew new boots) need advice
I would suggest, trying to try some of these boots on first, as they may be well price and look good but if they dont fit right or make you feel uncomfortable you'll have wasted your cash. Why not see if you can get down to Hein Gericke or somewhere like that to see what sort of boots suit you before you buy?
Never know might find a good deal in the shops
