Medic or is it a vet I need?
The cat is unwell I tried to go out on it today whilst the rain was at bay and as I went to pull off I gave it some gas and it struggled I left it running for a bit to warm it up and still same it sounds like it's struggling to breath.
Would a service sort this out or is it something a little more major.

Re: Medic or is it a vet I need?
have a look at the air intake under the head light there maybe something stuck in there, could also be the carbs, need a clean and a balance maybe?
I am not technical expert but they were the two things that first jumped to mind

Re: Medic or is it a vet I need?
When did you last use her, with the weather being so up and down recently may be a little condensation has got into the carbs that just needs a bloody good thrash to blow the cobwebs away, or as you've already suggested a good service, clean and blast about.
Best of luck and let us know how you get on anyway

Re: Medic or is it a vet I need?
Yes weasley there is petrol in the tank lol I think the last service was done just before I brought it back in jan so I have no idea about spark plugs or leads it fires up first time tho so I'm thinking it might be the carbs. It let's me pull off but only to about 5k then struggles from there.
It's booked in for a service at the end if the month and I don't want to do any more to it just incase so it looks like it's a good pair of trainers for me at the mo lol

Re: Medic or is it a vet I need?
A couple of things you can check.
How old is the fuel? If it been in there a few months it may have gone stale. Have you got an in-line filter? that may be blocked
Are all cylinders firing? can check by spraying some water onto the exhaust headers when it warmed up - much better than sticking your hand on 'em to see if they are hot
Check the air filter it might have got clogged up.
I lost two cylinders when one of the coils went. I was very surprised the bike started, didn't sound good but it went OK-ish up to a certain speed.

Re: Medic or is it a vet I need?
Thanks Steve I took it to a grease monkey and the verdict is the carbs need a clean it looks like it hasn't had the sparks changed at all and needs a good old service. So do I pay the £300 I've been quoted or pay for the parts and get a mate (who does his own 916) to do hummmmmmmmm! Lol

Re: Medic or is it a vet I need?
I'd go with Mate and beer to service the bike route
I'm sure that's what Mark's equation meant

Re: Medic or is it a vet I need?
The spanner guy who serviced mine before I bought it came highly recommended, when I checked the bike he'd overfilled the oil and my mate (again 916 owner funnily enough) fixed the carbs he'd bodged to get it to run when the after market can was fitted, again before I owned it. All in all I'd say trust your mate 100%, take him beer and sandwiches and let him Look after your bike the way he looks after his own.
Hope it goes okay for you

Re: Medic or is it a vet I need?
Just a update I've ordered the parts today so waiting for them to arrive I took the cat out for a blast after getting abused by the mrs over mr grey!!!!! And a good old blast seemed to blast some old cob webs out of it but still think the carbs need looking at. Got to wait for my mate to come back from Abu dabi and then give it a good service. Keep you updated.

You weren't the only one getting grief off your missus from what I remember, I got a virtual earful of her on FB earlier don't forget
Glad the bike is getting better though. Cleaning and setting the carbs and a good service should sort things out
