Re: What to change...(oil, sparks..)
Hi Tom, you would only need to change what is required as per the service intervals. If you don't know when anything was last done then I would change the oil and oil filter and have a look at the air filter for visual inspection. No point in changing spark plugs unless you have a problem.

Re: What to change...(oil, sparks..)
As above really. To be honest, every spring I pull mine out of the garage, give it a wipe over, put some air in the tyres and then ride it. It has always made me smile how it just takes it - it is as easy to own as a car.
If you're really bothered and have the time and money, then an oil change is always worth doing, plus oil filter. If you don't know the status of the brake fluid then it's an easy job to flush and replace that. Check the coolant level and make sure the brakes work before setting off.

Re: What to change...(oil, sparks..)
Depends how many miles you put on it, as mine is a summer machine and doesn't do many miles I change the oil & oil filter every couple of years, I changed the sparks for the first time in eight years last year and the air filter about 5 years ago.
I usually put new brake pads on every 3 years.

Re: What to change...(oil, sparks..)
I haven't changed the coolant or brake fluid on mine in six years.
Re: What to change...(oil, sparks..)
Someone once told me the oil at least needs changing every 1000 miles, don't know if theres any truth in that?? I've done a couple of thousand miles on mine since I got it in October and even though it had a full service last August I plan to change the oil and filter before I go to Assen in June.
Incidentally how does everyone else find there oil burning is. Mine hasn't lost a drop in the time I've had it, just wondering how others find theirs?

Re: What to change...(oil, sparks..)
Not many miles put on mine but seems to lose no oil.
MOT time this weekend and down for an oil & filter change. Everything seems fine so fingers cross.
As I don't have too much of a clue with mechanical things the bike and car get left until I know something's up, with modern stuff seemingly reliable I'm of the opinion if ain't broke don't fix it.

No, there's not! I think the oil change interval was raised from 4,500 to 6,000 miles wasn't it? Mine is every couple of years.

Never had to top mine up in 10 years of ownership.

Re: What to change...(oil, sparks..)
How many miles has the bike done?
For the MOT, clean the bike(no one likes working on a dirty bike) check all the lights work, Check tension and lube the chain, lube all the levers and cables, dig stones out of the tyres and check pressures take all the paperwork and arrive on time, first impressions work wonders, if you annoy the tester he'll find something wrong.

If it's got a metal base to the bulb most of the time it pushes in and turns anticlockwise, if it has no metal base it should!! just pull out.
