Elan Valley, between Rhayader and Aberystwyth
Here's another shot from not far in, it's a cracking bit of road, not fast, it's not a wide road but you don't want to do it fast, and then it opens up to highland type area.

Hate to think what would happen if you saw my MPG .
Thought it might have been Elan Valley area when you first posted, it really is nice around there when it not raining. Have done it in the dry and the wet and no prizes for which I preferred.

Re: Heaven?
Aaaargh, you guys are just mean.
We did it a couple of years ago in the peeing down rain and there was diesel across the whole road for about half a mile, where you get out of the valley bit and through the farming bit so there's a couple of really tight turns and up and down.
We slipped around everywhere and luckily kept it upright and found a bike down the road on it's sidestand all mashed up at the front, we got off andhad a look around but couldn't find anyone. Further down the road were that metal bridge it we found another fella and his bike, said the one left on the road was his mates who'd been rushed to hopsital and he was there waiting for the recovery truck.. OUCH
Going to do a little write up with a couple of pics, just uploading the pics and got nearly 200, so I think I'll just put the highlight pics up

Re: Heaven?
You lot are just show offs, but that's what you get for riding bikes with pedals ( not jealous, honest).
In fairness the first two I added were particularly low so I'm thinking they have dragged it down.
But having said that I think if I removed them the average MPG would still only go up to about 37.5MPG
I am planning on checking valve clearances, then a compression test and find out where the problem is. I did notice that it has aftermarket jets in when I stripped and cleaned the carbs so thinking about getting some standard jets to put back in to see if that helps

Re: Heaven?
Fuel consumption numbers are just about the same, just not in the right order
I don't think you'll get much better fuel consumption out of a Bird, a friend has got one on a part ex from a "Hardly D" tractor, he still backs away from the Bird when he gets off it as though it'll bite him. Don't think he's been above fast tick over yet, but it's still quicker than the "Hardly" ever was and he only gets the mid thirtys to the gallon.

Re: Heaven?
MPG dyslexia, I like it
On the blackbird forum it seems to be split in to two groups, people who get about 130miles when the light comes on and people that get 160+miles before the light comes on. I would LOVE to tell you it's because I ride it like a boss but I would be lying It still shifts though
Tell your mate that he's right, it's a beast and he's lucky to still be alive on such a snarling monster and that he should get rid of it right away....
I have £50 with his name on it and am willing to give him that £50 in exchange for taking that dangerous bike off his hands

Re: Heaven?
I think his best comment on the Bird was " the throttle grips not connected to the engine, its connected to the speedo needle, when you twist the grip it just pulls the needle round the gauge"
Oh! and when he road tested the Bird he took his Hardly D gear, Open face helment and DM's He said "I was most annoyed when the salesman started laughing when I put my helment on!!!!, Bought a new helment with the bike, followed by boots, jacket, trousers and gloves The joys of Jap bikes.

I like it, the best quote I heard about the BlackBird was from a review of it when it came out and went "The Blackbirds ability to completley and utterly F**K off above 7k revs is astounding" and he's right, we tried it on a private road ( ) in the Lakes, me and her, I told her that we were doing 70mph in third and asked if I should 'give it some' and see what happens.... She said yes and I spent the next couple hundred yards trying to get the front end to stay on the floor, awesome but not something I'll be doing aot of

Re: Heaven?
With all that grunt you'll get lazy, swap it in for a 125 to remember what a gear sticks for . We could always swap bikes for a few weeks, I'll even fit a set of 33bhp restrictors to the Cat to make it better fun and even better on fuel.

Ah! Lovely bit of Wales, done it a few times, I think we did it on BC2? Gorgeous when the suns shining.
