Shipping Thundercat Abroad
Well I have a new job and moving abroad, yes thats right I am going to be moving to Engurland - Carlisle to be precise.
What I need to know is do I need to pay any import / export duty on the bike, what are the border guards like and can I take as much plain bread, square sausage and irn bru with me as I like or is there a limit at customs.
I know they have many strange ways down there and need a heads up from any locals

theres a special welcome to land of not quite as much rain tax, which you can pay to me directly and save yourself a few quid over paying it directly to the state........

Yes turn left for the Dales, right for the Lakes and back over the border when the guards are sleeping to the wonders of the borders - prime biking country and that had a part in deciding which job to take

Re: Shipping Thundercat Abroad
Congratulations on the new job
However, don't be of the impression, just because you've got a new job, you'll be welcomed with open arms. You will of course have to 'fit in'. So wearing a skirt, painting your face blue and moaning that the 'sassenachs' have taken all the oil, and won't stop 'til they get all the water too, is probably going to have to take a back seat! You'll also have to swear an allegiance to The Queen - that's the same monarch as in Scotland it's just that in England it means something. And do remember to bring your birth certificate as once Scotland declares independence you'll need some such excuse if you want to visit the 'auld country'. However there is one trump card you can play if all else fails - a fine scotch malt will usually smooth over most mis-understandings or embarrassments. A plentiful supply will be in order then. Oh, and you need to be generous with it. Oh well, that theory didn't last long.
Good luck with the new job
Very tongue in cheek - greencat

Fraz - you will now be close to me here at the "border lands".
I still do reiver raids most weekends - Asda, Morrisons or Tesco (if I am feeling flush).
Carlisle, its just a small town in Scotland or so the away fans sing.
Cheers
Billy

Congratulations & commiserations at the same time Fraz.
Hope it all goes well.
Might you find time for some Wee Mac before you go?
Cheers

Ps with the formatting on my phone all I got on one line was
" Remember I have brownie points with your good lady from my Sex"
It took me a while to find the next line!

True, but the good news I managed to talk her out of it when we were there - bad news cost me a fortune elsewhere!
Oh and here's some interesting reading for you about Carlisle.
Cheers
Billy

Re: Shipping Thundercat Abroad
Congrats on the new job.
Like me, take pride in taking another job away from an englander. (ducks for cover)
Welcome to the world of paying for University fees, paying for prescriptions, paying for eye tests, paying for care for your elderly relatives, amounst other lovely things you are used to getting for free.
I suggest you keep a bolt-hole on the right side of the border and commute..its only Carlisle!!

Interesting read Billy cheers, will they be so happy when I start tinkering with their bus services though :evil2:
Will be covering the area from Dumfries down to Blackpool but will base myself in Carlisle and then find excuses not to use company car but bike it instead.
Will give you a shout when I move as I am hotel bound until I find a place to rent so if you are free of an evening maybe we can go a wee run or three. Move down on the 9th April.
Rosco - trying to work out whats what for Wee Mac, daughter is a bit twitchy about me moving so going to be home most weekends so she will be the one who decides if I am available that weekend but I will let you know
