stay safe in the new season..
I have nearly been taken out twice this week already, no fault of my own, drivers both not looking before moving off or traveling too fast, all stay safe out there, the cagers havent seen us for a few months and have forgotten that bikes use the roads to it seems
Stay safe out there!

Re: stay safe in the new season..
Echo that, as it was my Saturday in work and casual is the theme I went on my bike and was amazed at the stupidity if some cage drivers, one actually almost touched my back wheel in a queue trying to get through a gap; I'd stopped because I couldn't get through it!!
Seriously guys drive like you've got a target on your back and everyone is trying to kill you, at least until visibility improves and nights draw lighter

Re: stay safe in the new season..
Was thinking of going out this Sunday but looks like rain (about time down here).
I think it's when the sun comes out this time of year and it warms up drivers dis-engage their brains.
Will heed all advice when I straddle my cat once again.

Re: stay safe in the new season..
Not noticed tbh, they try and kill me all year round
Good advice though, remember, it's not just them that aren't used to seeing you. YOU need to get back in the swing too if you don't ride all year round. Take it easy and build up gradually, it's easy to just jump back on and think your riding will be the same as last year.
Above all... Ride Safe

Re: stay safe in the new season..
Nice thread and timely advice. I'm itching to get out again, but commitments mean it'll be a few weeks yet. I'll be suicidal by then :silent: Perhaps not the best turn of phrase! I'll be taking it easy and no doubt scolding myself a while until I feel I'm back in the swing of things.
Have a great season everyone.
I look forward to meeting up with many friendly faces. :geek:

It's only 6 weeks to Weemac and the start of the rideouts.
Can't wait.

Re: stay safe in the new season..
Best keep an eye out for this ol dear, got her left and her right mixed up. The quick flash of the right hand indicator was her acknowledging the fact she realised I was there, pity she didn't see the blue car right at the end. I hope she got home OK, the few minutes she was around me was nerve racking.

Lane indiscipline
Drivers like that should be forced to drive with their hazards on since that is what they are.

Re: stay safe in the new season..
What isn't clear in the video is not only is she lane hopping, but actually on the wrong road - her car is blocking the view of the road split!
A lot of people around here would be driving with hazards on if that were the case. Pedestrians have learnt to now wait for the cars to stop at a zebra crossing because many cars just drive straight through them :(

Re: stay safe in the new season..
I was driving along this morning in flowing traffic on a single lane. Nowhere to go, not speeding, just a normal road. There was a car behind me and the driver (whose gender is not important) kept backing off then speeding up and sitting right on my offside rear as if to overtake (but there was no way of overtaking) then dropping back flashing his or her lights. I couldn't work out for the life of me what their problem was or what they were trying to achieve but I watched in the mirror as they thumped the air, steering wheel and gestured in my direction. This was one angry stressed out driver!!
Finally they indicated to turn right, gave me one last angry flash of the lights before pulling in front of an oncoming car and nearly causing an accident.
I'm no angry driver and don't easily get wound up, well apart from really bad or inconsiderate drivers but I could have seriously pulled over and tw*ted this person...............
But I don't hit women (sorry had to do it and I know men can be just as bad if not worse)!! What was her problem, by the way I pulled over and checke my rear lights in case she was just trying to get my attention to let me know about a bulb out !!

Re: stay safe in the new season..
A work mate is in the process of becoming a motorcycle rider, so I took him out on the back of the Cat yesterday as he'd never been on a motorbike before. Bikes got a intercom so we could talk on the ride, it was a gentle ride with a little bit of snappy overtakes but only using half throttle, so 50 miles of ambling around to be honest. Didn't go through towns and not much traffic around, their were several comments over the intercom about how many t***s were out in there cars, seemed normal to me but it is nice to see that a car driver was shocked at how bad the standard of driving is. The other side of the coin is as a rider how much crap driving you accept as being normal on day out. Oh and we stopped for lunch, was very nice as well [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Re: stay safe in the new season..
Many moons ago I was talking with the 2 IC head of the regional traffic inspectorate (a bit like the highways agency here), his view was that no one should get a car license until they have done 2 years on a motorcycle.
I am hardly behind the wheel these days, but the few times I have I’ve been more aware of bikers than others (obviously), but I’ve also seen some breath taking moments which haven’t endeared bikers to other road users.
The Met Police, during their open days, usually have a HGV and I’ve seen bikers sitting in the cockpit; letting us experience what the truckers have to deal with. I’m not sure why when I’ve sniffed about trying to have a ‘go’ everyone scatters; maybe they’re worried I won’t be able to get into the cab - or worse still get out of it

Re: stay safe in the new season..
Sadly we lost one of ours 10 days ago:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Passed the IAM test with TVAM about a year back. Witnesses say he was riding sensibly and there was nothing he could have done to avoid a collision with the car, which apparently veered out of control into his path.
The reason why the car went out of control is unknown at this stage. If it turns out to be driver error or inattention, rather than a mechanical problem, one sincerely hopes that an appropriate and example-setting punishment will be given.

Re: stay safe in the new season..
Really sorry to hear that news and sorry for the family he's leaving behind. We really can't factor in the actions of other road users, regardless of the riders ability.
Please be safe out there, it's not always in your own hands.
