Re: Name for your bike
Mine is called yzf600r thundercat. It doesn't answer to anything though.
It's just metal and plastic.
Call it what you want.

Re: Name for your bike
Mine's the same as Ross's, although sometimes I call it 'the black bike' (to distinguish it from 'the green bike' I also have).
It's a machine, that's all.

Re: Name for your bike
Some people do name their bikes. My wife insisted the cars have names too, she named mine and I could never understand what she was talking about when referring to 'the black car' by her given name. My Yamaha 650 Turbo had to have a name too, eventually she let me call it Yammy
Nowadays it's The Bike, well that was till I got another one. So it became The Black Bike and The Red Bike.
The Black Bike had a soul, or more likely that's what I felt because I did so many miles on it. What your workmate is talking about is you can get to know your bike so well you know when something isn't right. It may have a funny way you start it in the cold, the light switch works when you wiggle it, and how it makes you feel.
It's just metal, plastic and other stuff but it needs looking after and if that means having a soul and giving it a name helps you respect it more, then go for it.
What name were you thinking?

Call it Eartha - short for Eartha Kitt - she was black. (although if you're a fan of The Royle Family or onto rhyming slang you may prefer not to!!)

Re: Name for your bike
Take the first letter of the bikes registration number and then think of a cartoon character/film hero/villain/famous figure whose name starts with that and away you go, Bob's your uncle

I know we've had quite a forceful blast of tomcom lately and 'Imitation is the sincerest of flattery', but..... can you write something I can understand? Following these threads is taxing my brainHEHORE wrote:Mines called ella nicknamed my baby , it call ella coz I makes a ella noise
BTW I haven't given my bike a name. When I make a mistake out riding I may use several names. Most of which could equally apply to me!

Re: Name for your bike
I don't really have a name for my Cat and never really thought of it until this morning.
After arriving at work someone commented 'on the beast again today'. Now since the person in question was not female I assume they were referring to the bike!

Re: Name for your bike
Well it's looking like the bike naming is definitely erring towards the girls on here, which makes me think that saying I actually have a name for mine is rather embarrassing.
So, er, no. It's a piece of metal and plastic and I refer to it as the bike!
Nor do I ever say good morning to it, pat it happily when I've done a great stretch of road or apologise to it when I hit a pothole or grind a gear

Re: Name for your bike
I had to call the R1 "The Beast"
Only because I called linz "the beast" once.
Only to be met with a reply of, "your not riding your bike now you know!".
So if she named the R1 that, I'm afraid i gotta accept it.
