Shock horror-George Whites in administration
Ive just heard via Motorcycle News on Facebook.
Sad sad times but then again if you're selling stuff that cheap you need to sell a hell of a lot of it to cover your overheads and make a profit!! :(

Re: Shock horror-George Whites in administration
to the MCN story.
Sad times indeed, it has been very tough for all motorcycle dealers and manufacturers. If what I heard is to be believed Suzuki UK only sold 200 new bikes across their entire range during last year's 'biking season'.

Re: Shock horror-George Whites in administration
I feel very sorry for the staff, a couple of whom I know personally (well, on first name terms, anyway).
I hope at least Nigel on the spares counter gets another job soon, he really knows his stuff and goes out of his way to be helpful.

Re: Shock horror-George Whites in administration
My understanding is that brand-new bikes will still be owned by the manufacturers or their UK distributors, so I would expect those to end up getting redistributed to other dealers.
The secondhand and pre-reg stock will be on G White's books and it's up to the administrator to get the best deal he/she can for them - auction, job lot to another dealer, whatever.
There's an awful lot of kit in the warehouse as well, much of which was bankrupt stock from other dealers that have previously gone to the wall. How they'll dispose of that I don't know.

Thats a real shame. Bought things from them at the NEC show and at the swindon branch, both times the staff where really helpful. Hope they find new jobs soon.

Re: Shock horror-George Whites in administration
This is really sad for the guys who work there. Some of them have been there for years.
Steve Gannicott is a friend of mine and has been a shrewd businessman building the company up to what it is now after taking the reigns from Old George years back.
Its a real shame that the present financial climate has forced the business to go under. I can only hope that another company buys the business lock stock and barrel and saves a few jobs.
My poor old mate Pil has only just started working there, I guess he'll be back to trawling the web for yet another job.
Still on the purely selfish side, I could do with a decent pair of boots.

They're auctioning off their bikes too. Shame I'm busy on Saturday or I'd be there.

Re: Shock horror-George Whites in administration
I'll deffo be there on Sat morn for a nose around,
Ive noticed over the last couple of days that they have been moving all of the clothing from the warehouse building at the back into what was the main bike showrooms.
Lets hope they have similar clothing bargains to what George White had.

Re: Shock horror-George Whites in administration
The bike auction starts at 9 on Saturday morning, in the old outlet warehouse across the road from the main showrooms. They reckon they will be able to get through about 15 per hour, so it will take most of the day. I guess once that's clear they will abandon that building. In fact, when they first moved to that site it was occupied by another company, so I guess it was only leased. Riding in Action are still doing CBTs in the car park, though!
The kit saleroom will be in the old bike showroom, also opening to the public for the first time on Saturday morning. Not sure what's going to happen to the old Honda showroom.
