Had a little panic moment yesterday :S
Was comeing home Sunday in the rain not heavy rain but drizzly. Came over a set of lights on a 40mph duel carriage way. Started accelerating gently and then all of a sudden the back end lost grip and stepped out. What I did was eased off the throttle steered into it a bit and leaned into it. As look would have it it caught grip and straightened up with no drama. Now I haven't been riding long and never had it happen before so you can all imagine how i was feeling.lol but on the rest of my journy home got me thinking was I right in what I did or are there better ways to deal with it? And what surprised me was it doesn't take a lot to break grip with a bike.

To be honest mate you'll find find that there is more grip than you think in the wet, it depends what your tyres are on, if you go over a grid or overbanding on the road then that is quite slippy.

Good reaction though slowing off the throttle instead of just shutting it right off.

Yup as Pete says you prob hit a patch of Diesel..
First time i hit diesel i was about to go from a 30 to a 70 zone in the wet and wound it on..Luckily it was a straight road, before i new what was going on the back end started kicking out and the revs went high a bit like a slipping clutch. Gave me a oh sh!t moment as i didn't have a clue what was going on at the time!!
As Strechie also says, with warm tyres you'll be amazed at how much grip you've actually got in the wet...(as long as there's no Diesel about!!)
And stay off the white lines too, very slippy in the wet.

Was lucky really as the revs jumped up quickly as it does like ya say,so knew it was going to happen and didn't smell or see any diesel think it was greasy. lucky it happened in a straight line. Always look for any clues of oil diesel at junctions etc, always ride for the conditions. I suppose it will happen. Just wondering do I need to shift my weight things like that. Best way to Overcome it? Tires are pirelli diablos I think plenty of tread so dnt think it's that never had any problems in the wet other than this and yup arse hole was Going a bit when it happened. Spose this is the part where everybody says as my dad did. Welcome to biking. Well in my dads case....... Back in the day I rode in snow sleet rain anything......which is why I fell off a lot.ha ha
