Re: Online Gaming
Red Orchestra 2 looks like it's going to serve the modding community well.
It's only DX9 so it shouldn't tax most cards.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Pre-ordered ID's Rage, boycotting EA after the BFBC2 fiasco, so no BF3 for me.
CoD is all about DLC these days, so I've gone right off those (they all look the bloody same anyway, the last groundbreaking FPS was Modern Warfare imho)
Bought Portal 2 recently, that was a mistake since they dumbed it right down for the consoles and I finished it in hours, as opposed to a week for the first one.
Downloaded the benchmark for the upcoming MMO World of Planes yesterday, looks pretty good (although DX9 again) and takes me back to the old Combat Flight Sim days.

Game of the last year or so for me has been Fallout 3 GOTY edition, I've racked up about 150 hours on it and I still haven't finished it.
Got a PS3 but don't game on it much, I bought it for stuff like golf and driving games...the exception being the excellent LA Noir.

Re: Online Gaming
We were running a server for it and every patch just broke it more.
Hit reg was shockingly bad to begin with and then there was the weapon balance..after a few weeks all we got was a flood of medics with LMG's.
We had login issues, autobalance problems, server disconnects, CTD's, sound issues (War Tapes), rubberbanding helicopters, knife glitches (basically it didn't work) and Punkbuster didn't work (so we ran PBBans on our server)..
..and there's more, but I won't bore you (and Oldcat might have an apoplectic fit )
They've had a year to fix stuff, so no doubt it's improved, but I'm not forking over cash to go through it again.
It's not like I didn't play the game, according to my Steam account I've put in over 200 hours on it.

Sweet rig.
Re: Online Gaming
I currently play TF2, BFBC2, L4D2, Age Of Empires Online, Crimecraft; Bleedout, Section 8 Prejudice, Guildwars and the greatness that is Eve Online.
Awaiting for the coming of Star Wars; The Old Republic and Guildwars 2. I may also consider BF3 and a few others that catch my eye.
All on pc.
Anyone think they want to game sometime?

Re: Online Gaming
I read previous post thinking my brain had stopped working as nothing made sense to my brain
Sorry, you get used to using abbreviations and acronyms a lot.
If you want a translation:
FPS = First Person Shooter
DX (9/10/11) = Direct X, Microsoft's programming interface used in most PC games.
BF3 = Battlefield 3, an upcoming FPS
CoD = Call of Duty, another FPS series of games
BFBC2 = Battlefield Bad Company 2, a FPS that was released last year.
DLC = Downloadable Content (a revenue generator favoured by many games developers these days since they can keep charging money for stuff like new maps or weapons)
MMO = Massively Multiplayer Online
GOTY = Game of the year (A game package that usually includes all of the expansions (DLC) released so far)
TF2 = Team Fortress 2 (another multiplayer FPS with cartoonish graphics)
L4D2 = Left 4 Dead 2 (a squad based FPS set in a world of zombies)
..hope that helps to clarify

Might as well do the ad thing.
If anyone fancies checking out a PC Gaming Community (we are not a squad) for mature gamers then come visit us Here
We play a whole heap of games, from Minecraft to Brink and have community members from almost every country so there is always someone playing something.

Looks good.
The last time I joined a 'Mature' gaming community I got banned.

That was about five years ago, and it's good to see they haven't forgotten me.

Lol, nps there, being truly international we are more than accommodating of national foibles
Pop along to the forum and just hang about for a while mate, there's never any pressure to join or even better jump on TS and say hi.
Re: Online Gaming
Oldcat's gone barmy.
(Can someone give Ponder Stibbons a shout and tell him to re-initialise the GBL?)
Might take a pop in sometime Dai-San.
What we did was set up our own forum and drag some of the reprobates with us, so we a have a gaming section ourselves (that was mostly hidden due to a spate of spammers a while back, but visible now).
