The locals took heed of the warning and decided that it might be time to put a jumper on

Just another typical Scottish summers day.

I flew up to a job in Shetland a couple of years ago in the middle of winter.

Arrived on site in a 70mph horizontal sleet situation, and there was a bloke standing outside having a fag wearing only a Rangers shirt and jeans.
He could barely keep the fag lit and getting blown out of his mouth.

Next day on the way back to Sumburgh I passed a rosy cheeked lass in the middle of nowhere who had at least made a minor concession to the weather, she was wearing a jumper.

(Apologies to any US readers, but you should know the difference between a UK fag and a US fag by now )
