Error codes.....Can we have a Sticky???
Hi,
Could someone please make a sticky for all the known rev counter errors??
As I think I might have one.....I think Ive been a bit of a twit and done something which maybe the cause, but Im not sure?
I removed the return cable on the throttle yesterday as it was frayed (New one coming from ebay as I speak) this was causing throttle return to drag and sometimes stick.....simple.
But, I went for a short ride on it today thinking that it should be OK without the return cable attached, as Ive done this to various bikes with no problems (In fact, it was better as the throttle snaps shut, way faster than if the cable was there)
BUT.......As I was riding I noticed that the rev counter dropped to zero for a few seconds, then went back up to the correct rev speed. I noticed that the bike was a little bit jerky as the revs came back. This happened at least 5 or 6 times in a 20min run. I basically came home because I thought it might be dangerous?
Now, Im thinking that because Ive removed the return cable, the throttle sensor is going hay wire because the tension on the cable now varies, and the slack is not being taken up....
Am I correct in this thinking??? (I think when I started it yesterday that I got an error code on the rev counter. I cant be sure but I think it went up to 8000 rpm, then back to zero. Didnt pay much attention to the rev counter, so I only caught it dropping)
Thoughts, answers general piss taking welcome!
Thanks,
Sean.

If you had the fuel tank off its worth checking the wiring connectors under the tank, especcially the fuel light sendor wire (is it a green connector from recollection?)

Hi Robert,
Yes, its green (which fits into a clear/white female).
Yes, I connected it back up and did a visual check of the breather, and the fuel hose and clip.
All are attached correctly.
I did notice a bit of white residue on the green connector. Could it be worth cleaning this up?
Although it was all OK before I had taken it to bits!
Sean.

Re: Error codes.....Can we have a Sticky???
My manual says there are only two error codes for the Cat:
3000rpm - throttle position sensor
8000rpm - fuel indicator light
3000rpm - throttle position sensor
8000rpm - fuel indicator light

I second Peters posting. I have the User Manual and Service Manual in PDF. I can place them in one of our web servers and send you the links if you like so you can download.

Re: Error codes.....Can we have a Sticky???
Hey thanks for the answer.
It was going for both, but i found in another post that this could be because of the nut on the battery not tight enough.
And it was my problem, fixed yesterday and went for a big ride, and for now everything is ok back
Thanks anyway
