Big Mac 2011 Sign Up (Fri 22th July - Monday 25th July) - Ullapool, Scotland (Waaaaay Oop North)

First topic message reminder :

We are staying in a Big Scottish Highland Castle (not a :bounce: bouncy :bounce: one) for circa £30 a night (will hopefully / probably work out a bit cheaper depending on numbers). Details - HERE and location HERE

We are staying in a Youth Hostel in Ullapool

We expect to visit John O' Groats HERE on the Saturday Rideout and Applecross HERE on the Sunday Rideout.

I require a deposit of £25 to secure your place as soon as possible, as I have to pay this up front. There is other accommodation nearby.

I understand all bedding is included and there may be a small fee for towel hire.
As with previous hostel stays we all muck in and make breakfast (very cost effective) as long as we tidy up afterwards.

The remaining amount (£35) needs to be paid by Friday 3rd June (ASAP)

There are cancellation charges to cancel a room so please don't sign up unless you are happy to pay your deposit.

The total accommodation cost at the castle is split between everyone at the castle irrespective of number of people in the room.

If you already have SYHA membership then you are free to organise your own accommodation here. We have to buy group membership.

Looking forward to this one.....I'm sure this will be the best one yet.

I won't be able to do the trip this year That pisses me really on... but unfortunately there is nothing I can do....

Aye Davie, me thinks we'll need to work really hard at our international relations this year.

If that means having to drink a lot of scotch in the process, then so be it.

Right then.

We now have 22 folks staying in the castle (3 x 6 bunks) and (1 x 4 bunk) (25% deposit paid) and 4 folks staying in a B&B (£10 deposit paid) about 7 miles away from the castle.

10 Scots, 10 Englishmen, 5 Germans and a South African - a truly international Big Mac / Doppel-Cheeseburger.
The castle is now full on the dates we are there although they are going to get in touch with me should they get any cancellations and have additional space for us.

Places to have dinner in the general area are very limited so I've booked everyone (including those at the B&B dinner Friday, Saturday and Sunday Night.

I'm still waiting to hear from them regarding the special dietary requirements but I'm sure this will be ok as we are giving them 5 months notice.

As you know we have had to change the venue to Ullapool Youth Hostel as the castle was no longer available.

Everyone on the MASTER list has paid their £25 deposit.

I've PM'd everyone on the list for the remaining amount (£35 per person) which needs to be paid asap.

Unfortunately Yamahamad can no longer make it so there is currently ONE space available which we can hopefully fill.

In addition there may be more spaces at the Hostel (or available nearby)

I'm suggesting everyone sorts their own evening meal on the Friday night but since we have a large number then I think we should be trying to book a place for food for the Saturday and Sunday nights.

Anyone have any recommendations for eating out in Ullapool (for 25/26 people)?

The transfer fee won't be as much as £5 (might be about £3 - but it varies as each transaction is charged on a tiered basis). I've charged people paying Euro -> GBP the same - £65.

I'll be able to work out the change I owe you all once everyone is paid and I'll split it equally and pay you when I see you in Ullapool.

I'll PM you this too.

List updated.

Euan (bravepill6) can't make big mac now but Terry's mate Bob is taking his place.

He is on an FJR1300 and is a whole 4 years younger than Terry.

Our average age must be nearly 50 me thinks.

Glad to see the skies are emptying now, hopefully they will be empty by the time Big Mac is upon us.

Slight change of plan on the route. We will now be doing Applecross on the Saturday led by Dirt Bike Dave and then John O'Groats on the Sunday led by Furball. I'll back mark both days and get some pictures taken.

The roundabout that is the Big Mac Sign Up Page has just gotten another space free. With regret Terry Lees has advised that he is unable to make Big Mac so the hunt is on for ONE more rider to fill his boots.

If you really want to fill his boots. You'll need
a) Smallish feet
b) Be very nearly 70!
c) Know a lot about old bikes and old cars especially Austin 7's.
d) Ride like the wind.
e) Be capable of Depth Charge movements in enclosed spaces
f) Be a dirty old man ..... oh Harold!
g) Moan at anything at a moments notice.
h) Get bored easily......and announce it loudly!

Failing that you can just take his bed at Big Mac before he got the chance to dirty it.

Really hope we can fill this space.... Please get in touch with any fellow bikers and bully them into coming.

Any other 'local' Scottish cats fancy this??
