Anyone had a go on any of these??
Right, have been thinking for some time on getting a sports tourer and after this season i think i'll reluctantly change the Duc.
Been looking into a Triumph Sprint ST and am going to try and test ride one when i get home. Anyone on here ridden one??
Seems to be a bargain at £8500 brand new and comes with detachable hard luggage.
Also considering FJR and VFR but new prices are becoming silly and i fancy a new bike as i plan on keeping it for a while as a sports tourer should just about cover all i need regarding fast blasts and touring.
The Duc has been a cracking bike but i feel i need something a bit more sensible. The trip to Germany i did on the Duc was fine but the tank range and sore wrists/neck made the journey not as pleasant as it could have been.
All depends on what kind of trade in money i'll get for the Duc but i'm hoping to get around £4K ish.

Thought about a BMW? K1300S (or a used 1200)?
I love the Trumpet triple engine but the Sprint is getting a bit long in the tooth - I'd have a Tiger if I had the cash.

You, sensible.....Nah.
You're probably right though - the duc has limited comfort, touring, luggage carrying ability.
But great fun, a head turner, and looks the mutts nuts.
Are you hoping to change pre or post Big Mac?
Never tried one of those sports tourers so can't help on that front.
Good Luck mate.
Cheers
Ross

Re: Anyone had a go on any of these??
Yup, cheers for info Pete
Paul - Beemer is a bit too pricey as i'm looking to buy a new bike (preferably, but yes i like them too). Dave ( Trev's Bro)had a tiger at Eifel and it looked a bit too tall for me.
Rosco - Will have 1 last summer on the Duc so will be winter time when i change, better chance of a better deal then too.
Will be hard to let the Duc go tho... :(

Cheers both Terry's but they are a bit too pricey for what i am looking (or allowed) to spend on a bike and i do fancy one out the wrapper.
On saying that This has got me thinking....hmmm i'm not 40 yet...might just have one more summer of fun!!!!

Davie boy, oh Davie boy, that MV thing is even more radical than that duke thing, what you really need is a little Austin 7 or failing that a little FJR 1300. You know it makes sense!!! Your uncle Tes knows best!!!

You with NO Duke!!!
Test rode a CB 1300 lately and that is a fine bike. Very throwable and the engine is as smooth as honey but Linz thought it was boring on the back as she carnt see over my head. Nice comfy ride though she says. Yes, me complimenting on a Honda which is very rare. CBR 1000r gets better the quicker you go but theres no fairing.
Sprints, there not a bad bike but, like all triumphs now, if any bulb fails, whether it be a brake or indicator, the ECU warning light comes on and its a dealer only fix to sort that out.
A mate of mine only rides Triumphs (he works for Bloor's like me and we get 20% off list price, 50 % off accessories & clothing), he's had the tiger, bonnoville,675, speedmaster, speed triple and street triple. At the mo, Sprint st. Best of the lot he reckons. Rocket 3 is next on his list. Flogs them after a year and gets his money back what he paid for them in the begining. Tried to get me to do it but it lands on deaf ears.
I'm a R1 kinda lad.
I like the pain on my wrists and shoulders. Numb bum after 150 miles atleast aswell but nothing has gone wrong and still going strong in 16000 miles.
Still scratching your head???

Re: Anyone had a go on any of these??
Cheers Rob, It was an R1 i was after when i ended up with the Blade..
I'm totally not sure what i want to do now, i am going to test a Sprint ST when i get home, there is a Trumpet dealer not far from me, the 2011 model doesn't come with panniers as standard which i what i want but the 2010 model does..
FJR is still on the Radar, will try and get a test on one too, decided i'm not too keen on the new VFR1200 and it's pricey.
Another option is to keep the Duc and get another Thundercat for long trips.....
Guess i'll see how i feel once i've tested the Trumpet and an FJR.

Re: Anyone had a go on any of these??
Dave, I got mine 2010 model in may just before BC2 & at the time wasn't convinced I'd done the right thing. Now with 2500 miles on the clock & a weekend in the yorkshire dales looming for this weekend I'm loving it.
I think I got a good trade in price for the CBF1000 & as you say £8,600 with paniers & £800 of free extra's it felt right, now I've seen the 2011 model which has new styled fairing & graphics + new headlights but no panniers I feel I was right to buy in May.
Worst points about the 2010 sprint, tyres BT020's (rear has squared off already)
Mirrors could be better but are not as bad as the press would have you beleive, headlights are adequate but main beam makes only a little difference.
It's a heavy old brute to move about fully laden if you have a gravel drive like mine.
The fairing does such a good job that when it's realy hot there is no airflow - upside of that, even when the suns gone to bed vented leathers are fine.
Everything else is Good to the point I have riden the CBR900 about 100 miles since May.
My choice of extras, Givi rack & topbox + backrest, hugger, fender extender, heated grips,
tank pad & race can (came to a bit more than £800 so I paid an extra £85.00)
I've since fitted a scott oiler.
Give one a test ride
