Zumo Fittings
Moved from Mirror extender thread
I have the same satnav, but have recently run into trouble trying to mount it. What mount are you using for yours?
SteveCat wrote:espaceman3 wrote:Steve , what is that electrical device you have near you speedo ? Looks very fancy - is it an onboard computer of some sort ?
It's a Garmin Zumo 550 SatNav, 'spose it is an onboard computer. One of the screen displays is an electronic dashboard - odo, fuel gauge and what I use it for a speedo.
Also have the 'safety camera' warning and a traffic receiver - good for advising of congestion and road closures (even on a bike) ...

Re: Zumo Fittings
Hello, lost in SouthWest here.. not been here for ages so just thought I'd log in and have a lurk around
I've got a Zummo 550 and use the RAM mount that came with it but instead of using the mount for the handlebars I have it coming from the headstock via a Telferizer mount.
http://www.telferizer.com/
Cost about £30 it goes in to the hole in the headstock and you tightenin it up like you would a bar end so it stays there and it has a ram ball at the top which you then attached the sat nav cradle to.
I used the same one on the Fireblade, black bird and the CBR400 (needed a bit of packing in the headstock as the CBR400 has a bigger girth oo-er)
It's fantastic

Re: Zumo Fittings
Thanks for the info. I broke my ram mount (handle bar style one) trying to use it where the brake lever attaches to the bar.

Re: Zumo Fittings
Ho badly has it broke? Do you still have one mounting hole?
I have used the Zumo mount kit and I have the 'handlebar' mount bolted to the yoke, use 1 hole from the mount. Will see if I have pictures of it. Were not that far from each other, could meet up somewhere and you can take a look.
The route that Strechie has gone looks very good.

Re: Zumo Fittings
The bolt holes actually lined up pretty well, but I wound up over tightening it and snapping the mount. I didn't think I could break it with a 1/4" ratchet handle. So since the mount is broken, I'll probably go with the one Stretchie showed.
Meeting up sometime sounds good. I suppose I should go make a formal introduction in the new members area.

Re: Zumo Fittings
Look for the price for a replacement RAM Mount part, might still be worth your while.
I'll put my pics in so you can see I went about the mount a different way, wanted to keep the Zumo as low as possible.

Re: Zumo Fittings
Here you go, some pics for you
The Telferizer is basically a RAM mount ball on a thread, the thread has a rubber sleeve and a bolt at the end of the sleeve just like a bar end.
You basically hold the bolt and screw the ball in so it start to compress and flare out the rubber sleeve, slot it down your headstock and then keep tightening by hand until it grips in the headstock.
It ends up like this
Then you just attach the sat nav mount via the screw on mount
A bit more of a close up

Re: Zumo Fittings
I was able to take what was left of the broken mount, and make it work in the location that Stevecat has his. Thanks for the help guys. I'll try to post some pictures once I have it all setup.

Re: Zumo Fittings
My what a big ball you've got Dan!
brcSVO......What does that stand for then?
I too have a Zumo 550 albeit in a Honda guise.
I use the supplied ram-mount fittings and fitted it on one of the two top fork clamp bolts (shown below the bluey coloured top of the fork thingy in Steve's first picture)
I might have spare Ram-mount bits if you are struggling.
Cheers

brc are my initials.
SVO stands for Special Vehicle Operations... which was the forefather of Ford's Special Vehicle Team (SVT) in the US.
