Recommended Base Camp??
Just after pickin' brains of those more in the know!!
Me & Pal have decided to take a ride up the big road to Scotland at begining of September, hoping to catch up with some pals while there and hopefully try and find some nice roads on days without visits.
Gonna be callin in on friends in Glasgow, Cumbernauld, Bothwell & Kilmarnock and just wondered whether there was anywhere good to stay as base camp around the area, debating whether to do hotels or maybe have a look at renting a wee cottage or something to go from, any advice from anyone nearby would be greatly appreciated, cheers. James

I'm sure DBD has an incriminating picture of you sharing your bed with a sheep Pete. Maybe you were protecting her from 'The Count......ha ha ha!'
Come on DurtBikeDave post it up if you have it.
How come my house is getting pimped WKW?
Anyway to answer your question JDM can I suggest (from the places you plan to visit) north of Glasgow.
Either lennoxtown, Milton of campsie or Kirkintilloch area.
The road north of lennoxtown (b822) is nice as is the b818 past the reservoir. Most of the 'a' roads north of Glasgow are good once you get out of the suburb area.
Alternatively I would highly recommend Peebles. Not because I know of anywhere to stay. Just that you'd have to ride my favourite road a72 / a721 to Carnwath to get to your destinations.
I'd have a look at googlemaps street map to get an idea of the area too but i'm sure you'll love those roads if you get to try them.
Cheers
Rosco

Have to agree with Ross being an honorary Campsie Girl myself - that area (Lennoxtown, Milton, Kirki - Fintry) are lovely - if you are looking to stay out that way there is the Kincaid between Kirki (kirkintilloch) and Lennoxtown which is nice (tho my sister-in-law Isa works there and she is as mad as a box of frogs) - its got a decent bar in it too - there is also the Glazert Hotel in Lennoxtown tho thats a bit more. There were some s/c cottages at one point just outside Lennoxtown on the milton road - not sure if they're still there tho but I know there are B&Bs in Bishopbriggs which is Glasgow and there are plenty of Travel lodges/travel inns in and around Glasgow - the Ibis just off Sauchiehall street used to be reasonable too. Or try little places like Torrance which is Campsie Glen too - there are several places in Kirki. dunno if either of these any good
