Ride Magazine
In this Month's Ride edition there is a 10 page spread on the Thundercat. Interesting reading if you're new to the cat or about to buy one. Also which chain oiler works best article ( I'm not being paid commision from Ride Magazine - honest !)

Yes, they tell you how to restore it. My Mag arrived over the weekend, haven't had a chance to read it yet - never know it might land up being a different colour after the restoration [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] .
What this article may do is renew interest in the 'Cat, hopefully helping keep up resale values, but hope it doesn't mean they get on to desirable nick list

I suppose that's only of any use if you want to sell , but judging from how long people have kept theirs on this site - there doesn't seem to be a lot of selling going on

Ah balls! The article writer e-mailed me (as a registered user of their website) and asked for input to the article. I wrote loads then forgot to send it- guess it's too late now!

Re: Ride Magazine
Bought the mag today. Had a quick flick.. then read some of it!
It goes through the cats history, good points bad points then they've bought one to do up!
Over the next few weeks there going to repair it and get it to quote: "a bike that feels almost factory fresh"
Well they've got me hooked for the next couple of issues.
They also have a face off between a 2003 CBR600RR and a YZF-R6.

Re: Ride Magazine
I rushed out and bought the mag yesterday, and was enjoying every word until I got to the bit headed 'Paintwork' where they say;
'Not the quality, the colours. As a rule, the least garish is the most saleable, with the plain blacks and blues of the last production run far more popular than the earlier two-tones.'
Now I'm not going to enter into the 'which colour is best' debate again (because it's still mine ) but garish?? Do they not realise all our Cats are the height of good taste?
I saw a bright yellow and black R6 at my local dealer recently, now that really was garish. Still, good article and nice to see 'our' bike getting a bit of a feature.

Re: Ride Magazine
I'm with them on that I'm afraid. There are two main things wrong with the Thundercat
- some of the 90s "shell suit" paint schemes
- and the name "Thundercat" (who on EARTH signed off on that one?!)

Agree entirely, which is why I'm glad mine's a later (99 T) US-import YZF600R, no stickers on it at all

Re: Ride Magazine
As for the colour themes , I guess it's a question -of taste it doesn't seem to have put any of us buying them - but at the time I guess it was "fashionable" .As for the name "Thundercat" , I like saying to people "I have a Yamaha Thundercat " as oppossed to " I have a Yamaha YZF 600 R " .Thundercat rolls off the tongue nicely.

Re: Ride Magazine
Absolutely no idea what you lot are on about... Though yes, Thundercat is a bit of a silly name, but at least it's memorable... as for shell suits, I can't ever remember seeing a silver, orange and black shell suit...oh, wait... perhaps actually I - ahem - can. Never owned one though. No.
Mine was purple and green. The 90's had a lot to answer for
Anyway, just been out for a couple of hours on the bike, I honestly couldn't have enjoyed it any more if my bike was a different colour - and when I got back an elderly woman started chatting to me about her old BSA Bantam, if that's not what it's all about I don't know what is!

Very sad
At least mine was an England shell suit
As for the name of the bike, quality name I reckon
Re: Ride Magazine

Mines been de-Thundercat-ised also.
And ive NEVER owned a suit made of shells.
I personally dont like the link with the Thundercats Cartoon symbol either, but 'Tis to each their own. ...
Wouldn't be much fun if we all liked the same stuff, now, would it??
Re: Ride Magazine
just reading the mag at the moment. I found it strange how they seem to think the owners club is bikersoracle.com ???
