lol , well starting a bike gang is off the cards for the moment - or do you think I could be the first bike gang leader who doesn't have a bike license - and orchestrate everything from the comfort of my garage

Like most news articles, there may be a lot more to it: it's possible that he's been stitched up by his employer in some way, possibly not. We can only every go on what we read, but the facts look pretty clear:
The BBC has an agreement as part of it's charter that requires it's output to be impartial.
The journalist that was sacked represented the BBC publicly as a core part of his job.
The code of agreement, that presumably formed part of his contract of employment, says that he must disclose his interests and get permission before representing outside organisations. We know he represented an outside organisation and can only presume he didn't disclose his interests or get permission to do this.
The Bulldog Bash is clearly a politically contentious event and as one of the Bulldog Bash's PR people he must be aware of that.
It appears that he either didn't understand his contract of employment or didn't understand accountability and how it relates to his job as a journalist. Earning £40k a year and being employed for over 20 years at the BBC you would expect him to have both.
He wasn't sacked because he was a biker, he was sacked because he was an idiot.
