Re: Happy Christmas Everybody!!
Hi Everyone,
Well it feels a lot more like Christmas this year than for many years. That's probably due to the snow and maybe to a 9 year old who 'still believes' :rendeer:
Wishing you all a Happy Christmas. Looking forward to more banter on the site and catching up with some of you during 2010.
Best Wishes,
Chris

That's exactly my point why i say bah humbug - people have forgotten that - it's gone completely commercialised i bet there's not many people on here that haven't made a big thing about the commercial side of things - OHs presents - santa trains - santa's grotto the list is endless - i used to send out over 100 christmas cards a few years ago - it was getting stupid so i stopped - close family get handmade ones (by me) and i buy one box of about 20 of which i usually have a few left - in return i probably get about 20 cards and those 20 cards are from people i actually have something to do with all year round not just at christmas - i'd rather give a donation instead - christmas eve i'll be at the village church for midnight mass then sleeping on the floor at my parents house for 3 nights and by 3pm christmas day i'll be feeling ready to kill someone thats christmas

Re: Happy Christmas Everybody!!
I totally agree Suzie, I too do the donation thing and send cards to special folk,
but I also have a 10yr (and an 18 yr old and a 39 yr old!!!) that loves the whole thing, so we have made the most of our last year of her 'believing', then hereafter, Christmas will be very different!!
Nothing on earth beats your own children waking up on Christmas morning, excited and full of anticipation, nothing at all......
My children also spare a thought at Christmas, for the Kenyan children we spent time with who have nothing, and the fact that Jesus was born on Christmas day....
So all in all I think we have the balance about right........

Re: Happy Christmas Everybody!!
lol i don't find the whole of christmas a misery pete just the whole commercialism itself and run up to it - i was fed up in october when the decorations had already been out for a week in Oldrids!!!!
Come Christmas Eve when i go to my parents i'll stop stressing and enjoy the next couple of days with my family - you don't need to feel sorry for me - save your sympathy and prayers Pete for those to whom christmas means a few days of not being able to escape to work but instead means you're at the receiving hands of somebody's fist because the turkey isn't cooked right or the kids who have a fortnight of being scared to open their mouths.
No - i give the impression of bah humbug but the actual days itself i enjoy being with my parents and this year we have my young niece and nephew so the house will be noisy and the presents broken by lunchtime lmao and now i need to go out and stock up on batteries of various sizes before i'm back to work tomorrow as no doubt there'll be a few presents that are batteries NOT included ....... let the festivities commence
PS ellie you're lucky yours still believe =- my nephew is 8 and he and his mates are now cynical! so far we've managed to convince him and he's not so sure that he's prepared to take the chance by not writing his letter to santa lmao

Well I've been grounded for over a week, even if I could get the bike through the iced courtyard, it'll never make it up the ramp to the road :( Might be lucky and the rain we are due just might clear the ice.
If so I'm out like a shot (well maybe not so fast)
Gawd, is it Christmas already? No wonder the place is busy.
All the best wishes to everyone for a blessed Christmas and go easy on the Christmas Pudding

Re: Happy Christmas Everybody!!
I think that's the main problem , the small roads near me (including the one I live on) are all Iced , but once you get on the main roads they are fine - I've just driven to London with no hiccups.

Re: Happy Christmas Everybody!!
I hope everyone had a good and safe Christmas.
I did get out on the bike on Boxing Day (Saturday), only just though. It was still a little icy in places so had to be a bit careful.
Got down to the Quay in Exeter for 10am to find about 30 odd bikes there, varying in ages from brand new to the 1930's. I took the 79 Honda XL100. From there we all set off at 10.30am to Exmouth. The roads were quite busy but it wasn't a bad run. Got to Exmouth Sea Front just as the annual road race was about to start. Hundreds of people on the sea front and my decides to cut out (twice) in front of everybody. How embarassing.
Anyway, got to the cafe on the sea front and there must have been about 50 bikes there. People turning up from all over the place. Had a cuppa in the cafe and watched the power boat race that was going on.
Then headed home for glass of wine and dinner. All in all, a good morning.
Yesterday I went to watch Exeter Chiefs play Bristol Rugby, 1st v 2nd in the league, but we won't talk about that.
Now, it's back to work tomorrow. Yippee, I can't wait.

Re: Happy Christmas Everybody!!
Lucky you - our roads down my end of the county are still appalling in places - the estate is still about half an inch thick ice so the bike is staying put for a while yet
Guest- Guest
Re: Happy Christmas Everybody!!
Well the ice eventually melted on Boxing Day, so was able to go out :bounce: Was a bit worried the battery might not have survived not being used for a while, the cold and getting old - nothing to worry about - bike fired up straight away.
Went down to Newlands Corner which is about 30 miles away, only saw 3 bikes (well 2 scoots and a bike) en-route. Roads were pretty quiet for a change, just the "we don't look where we're going brigade" were out.
Get there and there isn't a single bike and the cafe closed. Fortunately the 'outhouse' was open, I get very low miles/p in cold weather
A bike rolls in, he had ridden up from Portsmouth - his mate had gotten too cold and went home.
Whilst nattering it starts raining and then I started to get cold, wasn't quite as much fun riding home.
