New helmet required
Bit of long shot, but you never know.
After a "wee incident" I now require a new helmet. I had a Shoei XR1100 and it was very comfortable even when wearing my specs. Only thing I disliked was that I found it quite noisy.
Looking about over internet last few days it seems that some folks thought that it was a quiet helmet which I found strange until I read that some bike and helmet combinations dont work too well together!!!?
So in short can anyone recommend a quiet helmet for the cat which will take specs comfortably and still has the sharp 5 star rating?
Cheers
Billy

Re: New helmet required
I've been down this road too Billy. Seems my Schuberth S1 Pro is one of the quietest about. I don't wear ear plugs so quiet is high on my list.
However a few problems, firstly the S1 Pro has been replaced and some reports seem to suggest the S2 isn't as quiet. It also doesn't score high on the Sharp rating and maybe the biggest problem I'm having is the price at around £450-£500.
It's the most comfortable helmet I've worn and I'm now spoilt with the integrated sun visor with easy to operate control, a pinlocked visor, superb ventilation without too much noise.
Have you looked at the flip up helmets? Think they are more glasses friendly - here's one with similar specs to mine

Re: New helmet required
It depends on your prospective of noisy , I just got this http://www.lidsdirect.co.uk/hjc-r-pha-10-club-black-1.html . and I am really quite pleased with it , but it is only got a 3star sharp rating

Re: New helmet required
I got a new Shoei Multitec this year and I've been really impressed. Quieter than my XR-1000 (with the included whisper kit fitted) and really comfortable. It's my first flip up and I love the convenience of being able to eat, drink, talk, pay for fuel etc without having to muck about taking lid on and off.

Re: New helmet required
I have a shoei something (can't remember the model) I think it's pretty quiet. I did buy the whisper kit which makes a big difference. The Duc's with Termi's are pretty noisy bikes.
I had Arai lids before and they are good but the shoei is def quieter and much more visibility than the Arai.
I bought a cheap flip up lid with Bluetooth , Viper make. Utter crap, very noisy and extremely uncomfortable. Bluetooth on it is a waste of time as you can't hear anything over 50mph.

Re: New helmet required
I have a AGV GPTECH, its very quiet, but the only reason I bought it is because its the best fit I could find.
I think if you have a great fitting helmet, the noise is automaticaly reduced as there should be no air gaps around your head for the sound to bounce about.
Only my thoughts no technical expertese in this field whatsoever.

Hope it wasnt too serious mate. I bought a KBC XP-3 4 star sharp rating and like it and not bad on the noise for me even with my large lugs, though do need to buy a pinlock insert soon for it. If you want a try give me a shout Billy and I can pick it up when I am up road, Size L.
On another matter hope to bring bike down on 7th July so will need to catch up with you then.

Lets just say the bike hit gravel and I hit tarmac.
Cheers Guys some food for thought there before I rush out and replace like for like. Fraz, good news on bringing the bike down. Will have to get a ride out sorted for you.
Cheers

Oh crap.
You're not the first nor will you be the last unfortunately.
How bad is the other damage?
I'm sure you'll get a numpty point if want to self nominate but it's a bit cruel to nominate you as it sounds like you've suffered enough.
Ellie does need catching up though and I can't do it all myself.

Re: New helmet required
For what its worth because every ones head is different, the best helmet I've ever had was a Bell. Since then I've had a Box (not bad on noise but rubbed my forehead after about 2 hrs) HJC, good when new but the linner shrunk and I no longer wear it. Marushin very nice but again the linner shrunk(might have been a little big to start with). I then bought a cheep Nitro for to and fro work, ended up using it as a best helmet, low noise, very tight fit, good vents, visors cheap and easy to replace, the only bad point is a thin strap. I then bought a cheap G Max (Nitro) helmet from Ghostbikes to replace the damaged Box(high speed bird strike) and that's almost as good. The only way to tell is to try them.

Re: New helmet required
Agreed, gotta try em on but as and when you Find one you like its worth pricing with Ghostbikes as they are cheap as chips and free delivery. If you're local to them (Preston) you can go up but with free delivery what's the point.

Re: New helmet required
Sorry, a bit late with this but here goes anyway.
I have a Suomy Vandal, in fact I'm on my second. 5-star rating, fits me snugly and comfortably and reasonably quiet. Only small drawback on a sportsbike is the low brow, so you have to keep your head up - I discovered this on a trackday at Cadwell, craning my neck trying to look up the Mountain! Works as a handy sun visor, though!
Both bought at the late-lamented George White's, the second one for only £100. Not sure if they're still available or whether G White's successor (Motorcycle Megastore) still have any.

Finally settled for a Caberg Konda flip up in high viz
5 star sharp rating, not as comfy as the shoei but then when you are spending hundreds less its to be expected.

I could see a strange yellowy glow coming from a wee bit north of here but that helmet arriving in langholm explains it. Bike got thru MOT on Friday so give me a shout if you want to go out a run bud

Re: New helmet required
Handy for everyone else in the group, since you'll attract all the wasps.
It's also a handy thread this. I'm needing a new bunnet and the priority this time is how quiet it is. The Arai I have at the moment is a nightmare, even with plugs in it reduces the roar to an almost tolerable rumble that starts to grate on the nerves after a couple of hours.
Top contender so far is the Shoei Multi Tec.
