Sky or Virgin Media?? Empty Sky or Virgin Media??

Post  Snowcat Wed May 16 2012, 19:04

Just a quick question, what do people have and what do they think of it?

I'm currently with Sky with sky + multiroom, phone and broadband, (frankly the broadband is pants!!) It costs over £80 a month.

Virgin are doing a deal at the moment, 2 TiVo HD boxes, phone line, 60MG broadband half price for the first 6 months!!

Do I take the plunge ???

VM's cable broadband can rarely be beaten (they're even 1 upping BT's Infinity by offering 120Meg).

I've always kept it on even when I've switched to Sky for the better TV packages (more HD channels).

I had VM broadband and was great speed and decent bit of kit. Unfortunatley no Virgin Fibre Optic in Carlisle so looks like I will be moving to Sky or BT depending on the best deal I can get

Virgin speed is defo the best for broadband AFAIK but only BT lines where I stay so I'm with BT. (plenty other ISP's on 'BT' lines available)

I just couldn't bring myself to pay for the all the extra TV stuff every month.
Nowt wrong with freeview (freeview HD) imho....I've already paid for it (tv license).

I've gone for a lovefilm.com subscription (others are available) which gives me 2 discs at a time - games, blu-ray or dvds and the watch online catalogue for less than £12 a month. I get better use from this than I would sky or virgin methinks.

Work pays for my unlimited broadband which is nice Wink

Good Luck in your choice.

I've got BT Vision, had it a couple of years and last December told them to cancel as I felt it a waste of money. Not wanting to lose customers they made me an offer I'm not sure I understand .. unlimited BB, phone with call package and basic Vision for just under £30..

BT will be rolling out their new HD service sometime this year, no info on it yet but speculation is they will be using Broadband to deliver the service - bit like VM. I'm waiting to see what that'll be like

I've built my own TiVo style recorder box on my Linux PC, records from an old Panosonic Sky DigiBox (FreeSat from Sky), if I want HD all I have to do is find a HD Sky+ box.

Am able to stream from Sony Entertainment via the BluRay if I feel like 'renting ' a movie.

Works for me, but then I don't watch my telly.

Well I think I've made my mind up to switch and on that basis I'll soon have a Sky+ HD box going begging, was just gonna put it on eBay but if you're interested 1st refusal is yours Steve

Unfortunately where I stay it's either sky or council telly.
Did look at freesat HD+ box but sky is already fitted and it works for me.
If I had the choice I would prob get cable. Us BT for BB and found they have got a lot better over the past year. Speeds have increased quite a bit. And sky have their own F1 channel now too. Very Happy

Right taking everything into account I've opted for and just signed up for the Virgin Package (Ding Dong). Half price for the first 6 months and I got them to throw in 2 TiVo 1TB boxes for the multi-room action Smile

Happy days, just got a shed load of stuff to watch in my planner between now and then !!
