1998 Thundercat 33bhp restricted
hi, need to sell my thundercat due to insurance costs increasing.
1998 'S' reg
Just gone 28,000 miles
Been resprayed black
Taxed till 1st of May
MOT is till June/July (will check if there is any interest)
Currently has 33bhp restrictors in to make it legal for current under 21 licensing.
Good points
Will have new brembo pads all round
Will have new brake fluid all round
Front tyre was new for last MOT and still has good amount of tread
Rear isn't too bad either but is older
Double bubble screen black
Beowulf stainless exhaust (road rash from when it was dropped)
Red Yamaha grips put on other week
No issues with the gear box
Been running fine whilst whilst I've had it (one year)
Front Goodridge braided lines
Brembo rear master cylinder
Will change oil, oil & fuel filters (air filter is washable)
Has some of its history (can't remember but there is a fair but but not full history)
Been resprayed black with decals
Recovered the seat recently (not perfect but certainly an improvement)
Shotgun style rear light LED with built in indicators
One piece fibreglass fairings
Badpoints
Rear disc could do with a clean (not really an issue, passed MOT with no advisory)
Had an issue with where downpipes attaches to the engine, one of the downpipes is held on only by one stud instead of two, used instant gasket glue/stuff and it seems to be doing fine (been a few months so far)
Bike was knocked over by a large bin at work and has chipped all the front and side fairings on the left hand side (rear and tank are fine) - May fix up if there is interest wont be exact colour match but should be fine.
Panel on front left indicator was knocked off when it was dropped (still works and is cheap to replace, £10 posted on ebay for full front set)
Overall, mechanical and electrical side is probably better than average for its age, no 2nd gear issue.
Tank and rear fairings are still in really good nick.
Still have both keys.
Front nose and side panels are a bit tatty due to being dropped but I will try to get this sorted
Has quite a few mods (non of which affected insurance costs)
Looks a lot bigger than other 600's, towers over my mates cbr600 and er6 - offers decent wind protection and is much more comfortable than other sports bikes.
Is cheaper to insure because its insurance classification was changed from supersport to sports-tourer due to the handle bar height and overall comfort.
Last year I paid £850 TPFT including breakdown cover, legal and interest, that was at aged 17 with 0 no claims, not too bad for a sports bike; Cbr600, gsxr600, ninja was £2k for me !!!
Reason for sale is that I now have a car and so Im going to need a smaller, commuter style bike to keep insurance down; my house share postcodes with a high crime area despite two hills, a river and a few miles in between us and so insurance is ridiculous.
Don't expect a new bike, it is 13 years old and tatty in places.
Contact me for a viewing, will get some pictures soon.
Looking around at other thundercat's Id be after around £1400.
thanks, Grant
