How did you tell Father Christmas what you wanted?
These days it seems quite easy to communicate with anyone where ever they are in the world, including the man of the moment.
Back in the early 60's things were quite different (didn't even have colour telly). There were no worries about Elf and his mate safety also no one thought there was anything wrong with a whisky soaked Santa. I remember two attempts at getting what I wanted, not sure which order they were in ..
My brother and I were told we needed to write to Father Christmas and to show our parents the letter before 'posting' - this was supposed be to make sure there were no spelling errors and our writing was neat enough, duly done I was horrified to find the postbox was the fire. The letter burnt and disappeared up the chimney, I ran outside and saw the black remains of my letter soaring skyward.
The other recollection was my insistence in telling Father Christmas myself what I wanted. My brother and I were with our dad out shopping. Mark wanted to see FC, but was too scared to make a scene, so as the older brother I did. Dad gave in and asked where we want to see him. 'In Lewis 'I said, 'coz I had seen him there, but we were dragged into Woolworths. Boy did I perform, 'he's in Lewis not Woolworths' I screamed. 'There's one in every shop ' dad retorts.
Little wonder I can't remeber anything these days, my brain is full of ancient trivia!
Any recollections of your own? Maybe with your children or deniece or de nephews.

Re: How did you tell Father Christmas what you wanted?
We always had a coal fire and we would write letters to Santa which my dad then set on fire, held with tongs until they were just basically ashes, then they would "magically" float up the chimney. Santa's fire fairies collected them and read them to Santa back at the North Pole.
I have a workmate who ties Santa's letter to a firework on November 5th which then takes off and explodes. The idea is that once it's sent there's no changing your mind, giving mum and dad a good couple of months to sort things out...

Wrote letters and left them in Mums capable hands...Got a reply once or twice I think..
I searched for years for my pressies, and to this day, dont know where Mum and Dad hid them, never did find them!!
My Dad used to meet F.C. at Midnight (so we had to be in bed early else he couldnt go) in a purple sports car (wtf?) with the presents...
..and I once had a conversation with 'FC' in the middle of the night when I was about 7, I remember wondering why my dad had a false beard and a red dressing gown on?
Favourite Toys where....
Sindy Horse,
The first 'Walkman'
Pippa Dolls and a Dolls House my Dad made....I was also very dissappointed one year when I walked in on my Dad, in the garage, painting my brothers old bike, pink for me!!!!.
No wonder I have a vivid imagination!!!

Re: How did you tell Father Christmas what you wanted?
It's funny but I don't remember writing letters to father christmas , but I do remember being so excited from about November . I remember not believing in Father christmas anymore - not sure what age I was - I think it was about 30 (only kidding ) but my Mum still insisted on filling my stocking up the night before .
So what with me being a crafty so and so , I would leave a pile of Leggo bricks near my bedroom door so that when my Mum opened the door they would come crashing down and wake me up so that I could witness "father christmas" ! The toys that were really "in" were ACTION MAN , EVIL KENEAVILE , SCALECTRIX , hand held games like SIMON , MERLIN. And I also remember having my first walkman and I still have it today
And now it's my three kids that get all excited :whoop:
