Digits on the speedo have just clicked past 99,999 back to nought. But this is for the second time! Allowing for a couple of times when the speedo cable broke, that's about 205,000 miles. Valves haven't been done yet (was going to wait until 300,000...), original clutch and gearbox.

Not bad, huh?

Blimely mine has only done 17,000! It is on the original clutch and gearbox too...

I once rode a CX500 with a 108,000 on it when I was a courier...that was totally f@cked

Think Yamaha should gratefully donate a new R6 for my trouble. Last year was its lowest point when the swinging arm rusted through (you could put your hand in it from underneath!), but it's right as rain now, as I got a replacement off ebay. Must be on the sixth shock absorber now. I just use Hagon units: solid as they come and have an unlimited mileage warranty.

Currently I'm on 600 miles a week commuting to work which, taking away holidays, etc, is something like 27,500 per annum, but I used to live further from work, so the mileage crept up to about 34,000 a year. Because all the trips are reasonably long (work is 75 miles away), I guess the oil (synthetic) gets fully warmed up and engine stress is reduced. I do hammer it on occasions, too, mind, so it's not just pussy-footing. Went through winter last year in the snow and speed was reduced to about 40mph. Got nearly 70 to the gallon! I use a Silkolene fuel additive to minimise carb icing and use 'Daytona' heated grips. Wouldn't be without them now.

As for tyres, currently using the Sport Maxis (think that's what they're called), which are great for a couple of thousand then lose their profile. BUT they're half the price, so you have to weigh up whether it's worth getting cheap but changing more regular (to keep the precision of a new profile) or pay more and get a better tyre, but run it still when it loses its shape. The mileage record was about 10,000 for a Bridgestone 020 rear, but you get a lot of punctures when the rubber's that thin. Have never got close to that since. That was in London traffic mostly, though.

Thats impressive mileage good to know just how good the cat is. my bike is an 01 & currently has just over 11000 miles on it but for the last 7 years until this year it has done around 500 miles between mots. This year i managed just over 2000 & i intend to put a lot more on next year.

Just had a valve give up. Sob. Not viable overhauling engine and replacements aren't cheap...

That's terrible news.

I was thinking your bike was going to go forever, at 200k+ miles that is seriously impressive, over 3 times what mine has done.

What will you do, get another engine?

Bit of a dilemma. Was going to buy a crashed second bike, but they're still good money. Not worth fixing the head, because the clutch, gearbox and everything else is old and the only low mileage engine I've seen on Ebay (which had some damage) was £500 with delivery. Kind of hoped I'd pick something up for £150 ish. Guess I'm being naive...

Old engine still starts beautfully and runs, just pumps out a lot of fumes into airbox, so oil spews out of overflow.
